Remix Retro Social Bookmarking

What happens when you submit your web site to 50 different social bookmarking sites? I decided to give it a try with my t-shirt website Remix Retro Tees. Will be interesting to see if all these services generate any link juice or human visitors. I have a feeling that the top 50 bookmarking sites are like the top 50 search engines - only the top few will matter at all.

What is Social Bookmarking?

Social bookmarking sites allow users to share their favorite websites publicly. Sites can also use this data to provide search results based on their users favorites. Some bookmarking sites also allow user voting to bring attention to noteworthy links.

The various social bookmarking sites have different advantages and disadvantages. The best case scenario is when the site displays regular uncloaked links, does not use nofollow and lists your URL across multiple categories however this is rarely offered.

Results

When search engines spider these links they will probably not report them all back but some should show up.

I will will be keeping an eye on backlinks as well as visitor stats to see if all these bookmarks bring any human traffic.

After 1 year the results were hard to judge, not too many bookmarks showed up as backlinks to the search engines but they may have contributed a bit.

I'd say stick with a few of the top social bookmarking services and not worry about all these other places.

Hi fitrobby, its been a few months and I'm seeing probably fewer then 5 links back from all these bookmarks. As I suspected it seems like only the biggest social networks are worth the effort.
