Remix Retro Social Bookmarking
What happens when you submit your web site to 100 different social bookmarking sites? I decided to give it a try with my t-shirt website Remix Retro Tees. Will be interesting to see if all these services generate any link juice or human visitors. I have a feeling that the top 100 bookmarking sites are like the top 100 search engines - only the top few will matter at all.
Funny Shirts
The social bookmarking services that I use regularly are Del.icio.us and Stumbleupon. They are both good ways to get a new page indexed and Stumbleupon, if used correctly, can provide a nice temporary burst of traffic.

Social bookmarking sites allow users to share their favorite websites publicly. Sites can also use this data to provide search results based on their users favorites. Some bookmarking sites also allow user voting to bring attention to noteworthy links.

The various social bookmarking sites have different advantages and disadvantages. The best case scenario is when the site displays regular uncloaked links, does not use nofollow and lists your URL across multiple categories however this is rarely offered.

Although these bookmarking sites offer similar services they each have different demographics and special features. Some are focused on niche topics such as shopping, books or technology and other have a broader anything goes format. The level of social interaction on these sites also varies greatly. Certain sites with an active user base view commercial links as spam and will remove these types of postings.

When search engines spider these links they will probably not report them all back but some should show up.
As of the first day Google is only showing 14 inbound links to RemixRetro.com.
Yahoo is much more generous reporting 1469 RemixRetro.com backlinks.
I will will be keeping an eye on backlinks as well as visitor stats to see if all these bookmarks bring any human traffic. I don't expect instant results but we will hopefully see some action within a couple of weeks.
Don't forget to favorite this lens and check back for results!
