Chocolate, Sweetness, and Fond Childhood Memories

During my school days, my science teacher used to say that school days were the best days of our lives, and I remember how we students think of his views, and how we wished to tell him that be a student and see the grinding we had to go through at the time. We rebuffed his view. For us, growing up was "the thing".

In the hindsight, when all the dots have met to form a shape, I can say with a degree of certainty that how wrong each one of us was. And know I wish how fun it had been if we never grew up.

Sweet memories of childhood

When I close my eyes and think of my school days, a blurry picture of my friends and me strolling inside and outside of the school campus appear. The carelessness of the time still dawns upon me, and I wish to go to the days of lunch breaks, sports time, freedom, and pocket money. There was nothing much to worry about - though it didn't appear so then - and all the time in world to dream.

Talking of dreams, lunch breaks, and pocket money, I cannot help but think of the chocolates we all so drooled for. Like of any kid, having a truckload (or even more) of chocolates was the secret fantasy of mine. Fantasy because we never had that much money and secret because parents never allowed chocolates because of the fear of tooth decay.

Chocolates I like

In the today's fast paced world, you get everything (and probably even have money to buy some of them), but what you do not get (or cannot find easily) is the chocolates we ate as a kid.

I am not being nostalgic here, but what could match the sweetness of love hearts. I was fond of it until my early teens, or what could melt in your mouth as quickly as did Foiled Ice Cups. Since Double Lollies mankind has not have anything licks more enticing. And could you find anything as energizing and thrilling as the popping sounds of powdery Space Dust.

Have you forgotten the continuous sizzles of Space Dust?

I can distinctly remember how my younger brother shouted when I put some in his mouth for the first time, but after that he liked the deafening sound (he said so because popping was happening on the tongue), as did all of us. Do you remember the popping sound of Pop Rocks? Below are the list of top 10 chocolates I loved as a kid, please feel free to add your own choice.

What I do not want to forget

Those were days :-)

The days of "no breakfast TV" might be over, and I may not like to weak fluorescent dress again, but there are certain things that I will never forget. Sweet chocolates of my childhood are among those things. I can also not forget the carelessness of my childhood, nor will I like to forget the fights I had with friends.

Those were the days when egos were not so big to come in between a friendship. Those were the days when life was easy.

I still want to be in that state of mind, and when I pine for it, I simply try to remember the good time I had, and in that chocolates and cookies help a lot. After all, as a kid buying them was the only thing we had to worry about.

Those were days :-)

I am in trouble now. I had and still have my favorite sweets from my childhood but have to tell my daughter nowadays that sweets are not good. Kind of hypocritical, huh?
