Retro Nylons: Full Fashioned, Fishnet, Stay-Ups & Cuban Heel Vintage Nylons
Stockings graduated from woven cloth in the 1500's to Silk and Rayon by the 1920's. It wasn't until the 1940's that stockings were made of Nylon. Pantyhose didn't come on the scene until the late 1940's and into the 1950's.
With more skin being exposed, stockings offer an appeal that pantyhose sometimes don't. Stockings with a seam are especially appealing with Stiletto Heels; the seam at the back ending at the top of the heel creates the illusion of an elongated leg.
The look, certainly retro, is not seen as often in everyday life, but to this day, they're perfect for creating a vintage modern style or to wear with Retro Dresses.
There are three typical types of retro nylons that are still commonly used:
1. Full Fashioned: Nylons, or Stockings, with the Seam up the back of the leg
2. Fishnet: These are Knitted Stockings with open knit covering the leg.
3. Hold Ups, or Stay Ups: They stay up on their own without a Garter.

A Garter Belt is needed with these nylon stockings as they are not Stay-Ups.
