Plan a 50's diner style party

When planning a theme party you want every detail of your party to go together. Plates, napkins, serving dishes, the food your serve and all your decor should match your theme.

You can plan your party for a specific T.V show or movie and decorate your home to match. Or how about a sock hop? All you need is a few martini's, good music and some lively friends.

The simplest of all parties is retro movie night. Invite your friends over to watch a classic movie or t.v show with popcorn, soda and candy.

Create a menu with items you will be serving. Google retro diner menus for inspiration. Add retro clip art and fonts or pictures of famous crooners to really make it cool. (links for clip art and fonts at the bottom of this lens)

Make your own placemats by printing off a sheet of paper with a black and white checkerboard pattern and then have it laminated.

Find out if any of your guests has special diet needs so you can provide alternatives for them. Common dietary concerns:

Allergies: the most common food allergies are dairy, nuts and wheat.

Vegetarians and Vegans: vegetarians don't eat meat including fish. Vegans don't eat anything that derives from an animal, this includes eggs, dairy and gelatin.

Low fat or Low carb diets: Provide leaner meats, fish and bread free alternatives with the food you prepare

INGREDIENTS

1/2 cup orange juice
1/2 cup lemon-lime flavored carbonated beverage
1 tablespoon grenadine syrup
1 maraschino cherry

DIRECTIONS

In a tall glass, combine orange juice and lemon-lime soda. Pour grenadine in and let it sink to the bottom. Garnish with a maraschino cherry and a straw for stirring.
