Rising Oil Prices are Everybody's Problem!

Well, guess what uses lots of oil? Plastics!

Now, sure, we're addicted to cheap plastic as much as we are to cheap oil, but as consumers, there's an easy target for saving resources, and it's one we won't miss a bit: our shopping bags!

Sure, there may be some pride in a bag from a specialty store, but by and large, we don't think twice about our shopping bags. They're single-use items to help us carry it home (if they even survive that far!), and then we don't think about them ever again.

Well, don't think about them at all, by leaving them at the store for someone else! Reusable Bags will last far longer than a plastic bag will, and you'll save so much plastic from the landfill by the time you're done you'll wonder why people haven't been doing this all along!

Make Your Own Market Bag!

For the hard to please among us, we're not opposed to the idea of having a reusable bag... we just don't like the colors, or they're too big, or maybe they just don't hold enough to be worth it to us.

The solution is as obvious as it is time-consuming: Make your own!

For Thinner Bags: Crochet Thread is good for more than just doilies! your ideal bag will look most like a fishing net, which will conform to the shape of whatever you're carrying while remaining light and easy to pack into your purse or suitcase for later use.

For Better Colors: There's nothing wrong with purchasing new materials! Pick 2-3 colors that go together (or at least that you really like) for your bag. Experimentation will rule the day here, but three colors is a good minimum! At least two of them should be pretty close to each other color-wise though, for the best color harmony.

To Make Bags Larger: Figure out what your largest item to worry about is. The general rule: If it can fit in the mouth of the bag, it will fit in the bag, period. Also, by making the bag yourself, you control just how big or little it really is!

Go the Extra Mile!

For that additional eco-friendly touch, consider using recycled yarn!

If you don't carry it with you when you're out shopping, you won't get to use it! This is why it's good to pick a compact bag, or at least one you don't mind carrying around when empty!
