Don't Contribute to the Landfill Reuse It

I like to reuse as much as possible and with the growing concern about the viability of the planet for the next generation we must act now.

Biggest points are shopping bags. Reuse them I hate the plastic bags and would love to put an end to them.

Beyond bags there are a ton of other item we could be reusing or re purposing or recycling. Hopefully this lens will give you some great ideas and help you leave greener.

Stainless Steel and Aluminum Water Bottles are the Best Choice

Stainless Steel and Aluminum Bottles

Recently I watched an episode of Martha Stewart interviewing Simran Sethi Host of Sundance Channel's The Green Earth. Simran was discussing issues related to our water supply. I had heard that you shouldn't use plastic water bottles and thought it was a big joke until I viewed this show.

There is a numerous number of re usable bottles on the market that are made with Polycarbonate 7. You can quickly find out if your bottle is made of Polycarbonate 7 by looking at the bottom of your bottle and finding the recycle symbol that encompasses the number 7. If this is on your bottle recycle it.

Polycarbonate 7 bottles will taint your drink with Phenol A, which is harmful to your system.

While recycling plastic bottles is encouraged switching to a Stainless Steel or Aluminum reusable is a better way to conserve our environment and assure yourself of a safe container.

I am a huge offender. I drive one of those huge gas guzzling Yukon XL SUV's. I have looked at other less offensive energy users but have not found one that will take me through the mud in the spring and the snow in the winter that we get here in the great plains. I have yet to find one that allows me to haul my 3 kids as well as the additional passengers I always seem to have and all the coolers, baseball gear, decorated cakes, scrapbooking supplies and everything else I transport.

I admit I am a Huge SUV driver. The first step is to admit the problem which I have. Now the solution.

Because I will probably drive nothing smaller until my children leave the house I am choosing to use a carbon emission exchange program. The program I choose to use it Live Neutral.

Live Neutral
 is a program that calculates the emissions you create from various things like the vehicle you drive. Then gives you a dollar amount to cover your emissions. The fee you pay goes directly to programs that reduce emissions in other areas.

Books Lovers Find Another Way

Digital Books, Libraries and Book Swaps

I enjoy reading a good book or a magazine but I think they are a huge waste of paper and in my case space. I rarely unless it is a cookbook or a reference book, go back and reread something.

To save space and save a tree in the process I actively use my library. It's free, its limitless and it is rather enjoyable to sit in a new atmosphere.

The only problem I have with my library is that is doesn't always have the books I want so that is why I am becoming a huge fan of digital books instantly downloaded to Kindle. Kindle is a handheld digital device that allows me to purchase book titles I can't find in the local library and read them from Kindle. It is like a complete library in the palm of your hand.

Kindle goes beyond books and allows you to download your magazines as well as your newspaper subscriptions. You can take it anywhere. It runs on its on wifi service so you can download just about anywhere without the need of a computer or another wireless product. There are also no monthly service fees to download.

Green readers if you still want you info but don't want to cost the world another tree try the Kindle or get a library card.
