Find ways of giving new life to your old medicine bottles!

Prescription pill bottles can multiply quickly when you receive new ones at the pharmacy each month. Read on for a few ideas of how to reduce waste and find new uses for your empty medicine bottles!

Make a mini-kit out of your empty pill bottle!

Empty pill bottles are great for mini sewing kits or first aid kits.

To make a mini sewing kit, fill your empty bottle with a needle, thread, measuring tape, safety pin, spare button and whatever else you might need.

To make a mini first aid kit, fill your empty pill bottle with a bandaid, alcohol wipe, antiseptic wipe, aspirin packet, or whatever else you might find handy.

Make your pill bottle into a mini-ice pack!

To turn an empty medicine bottle into a mini-ice pack, simply fill part-way with water, cap and freeze. It won't take up much space in your freezer but will be ready in a pinch!

Reuse Clean, Empty Pill Bottles for Handy Storage!

Added bonus: Capped bottles are usually waterproof!

Old, empty pill bottles can be repurposed to store a variety of items. Some people use them to store quarters for the laundromat or pay phones. Others use them for carrying around plastic bags or waterproof matches on a camping trip. Other things you can store include buttons, beads, bobby pins, seeds, string, bobbins, and whatever else you can think of!

"Empty pill bottles can make an excellent water-proof wallet for a hike or at the beach!"

Use Empty Pill Bottles for Arts and Crafts

Besides using empty pill bottles to organize small arts and crafts supplies, you can also use pill bottle lids as the base for cute homemade pin cushions!

What I would like to see is pharmacies re-cycling all the pill bottles. Every time I get my re-fills, it makes me wonder how much the actual drugs would cost if I didn't have to buy so many plastic bottles. It seems like there should be a way for pharmacies to re-cycle the bottles. I've been tempted to take my empty bottles when I go in for re-fills. We are filling our country with things that aren't being re-cycled (and should be). Before we know it, we will all be surrounded by mounds of re-cycled items. If we want to make our planet larger, adding junk to it is not the way.
