After watching the movie for the second time I have come to realize I really don't understand this movie fully. Interesting how one movie can break so many laws of science and really make your brain hurt as you attempt to figure it all out. The movie starts out normal enough with a troubled kid going through the motions of living, but as the movie progresses this normal kid named Donnie either is extremely sick or extremely brilliant. Personally I think it was a little of both. The movie is extremely hard to stick with because of the odd nature which it progresses and somewhat slow at times.

This movie speeds as the engine from a plane slams into the house and more accurately Donnie's room. Luckily Donnie is on one of his sleep walking expeditions and is found in a golf course. He gets back to the house and everything is ok no one is hurt since the engine feel right into his room (which is an important part later in the story). The story continues and Donnie begins seeing what the movie would like to believe hallucinations of a rabbit which talks to him frequently and leads him to begin discovering time travel. As he discusses the theories about time travel with teachers and his doctor they believe he is suffering from paranoid delusions not realizing the accuracy of the theories.

As Donnie is sitting in class a girl walks in and the unorthodox teachers tells her to sit next to the boy she thinks is the cutest. She ends up picking Donnie to sit next to and this is where the love story begins which is also an important part of the ending. Now when Donnie sleeps he is under the rabbits control well it is not a rabbit, but rather a man dressed up in a rabbits costume. The rabbit tells him to destroy the school by making it flood and to burn down a pedophiles home who was well loved within the community. He follows the command of this rabbit and does exactly what he says I still don't understand why he flooded the school, but I do understand why he burnt the pedophiles home down. He burned the home down so the police would be able to catch this man who the town had become to love as a saint.

The further progression of the story leads to more complicated thoughts in Donnies head. He is searching for anything he can get his hands on for time travelling. Now the movie takes a turn and you really question whether or not Donnie is crazy or not. He and the girl from the class begin a relationship which quickly becomes love. This is one of the primary reasons he wants to be able to time travel because he wants to save his girlfriend from dying which happens closer to the end of the movie.

I really do not want to disclose the ending of the movie for those reading this that have not watched it, but the underlying philosophy is if you could travel back in time and give your life for those you love would you? Everything comes together in the end of this show masterfully and all the craziness seems to make since. The important thing to do when watching this movie is make sure you pay attention to the full movie through the end. It is quite slow at some points and at others you will have no idea why things are happening just remember as the movie sums up all will be known to you.
