Rice Cooker Review Tips

Many people just rush in and buy the cheapest rice cooker they can find because they believe that cooking rice is so simple that any cooker will do. On the other hand, some people just go for a familiar brand name. In both cases, this is not the right way to go about purchasing a rice cooker. In my article I will give you all the important criteria you need to know before making this important decision.

Buying a Rice Cooker - What You Need to Know

Rice Cooker ReviewsThe old cliche "You get what you pay for" is true when it comes to rice cookers. Because rice seems to be such a simple food, and the cooker such a simple device, people usually don't want to spend more than the bare minimum when they purchase one. However, don't jump into buying one: make some research first.

For example, you can ask around your friends how they like their rice cookers. Then you should ask them how much they paid for it. It is very likely that the people who are happy with their rice cookers bought a high-end model; and those who complain about their appliance, bought a cheap one.

A very important question to ask before you decide to buy a rice cooker is how many times will you use it? If you eat rice only once or twice a week, you don't need a special appliance. However, a rice cooker is a great kitchen tool if you love rice, eat it every day, and you want to try out different specialties.

Everybody knows that the secret of cooking delicious rice is to let it soak before you put it on heat. A more expensive rice cooker has a built-in timer which allows you to delay the start of the cooking process many hours. This way you can let the rice soak as much as you want. Another important feature of a high-end appliance is that it can monitor the temperature and can make adjustments if necessary. The cheaper models don't have this feature, so most of the times you will get hard-to-clean, crispy, burnt rice on the bottom of the cooking pan.

A high-end rice cooker has a wide range of possible settings, so you can make adjustments based on the type of rice you want to prepare. So you can differentiate the cooking process if you have brown rice, white rice, risotto, beans or wild rice. The consistence of rice can be also chosen: you can have dry or wet rice. And you will get exactly the same results, no matter what your preferences are.

And you can buy extra add-ons such as a steamer basket: with this, you can prepare steamed vegetables as you cook your rice. A steamer basket can also be used to cook fish or chicken.
