Revolutionary War Weapons

Revolutionary War Weapons: Welcome to my lens on the weapons of the American Revolution. Here we look at the weapons that American and British soldiers depended on throughout the Revolutionary War.

Cannons, muskets, pistols, sabres, bayonets, knives, swords, and other types of weapons were instrumental in the war. Even the submarine made its first (unsuccessful) appearance during the Revolutionary War.

Revolutionary War Weapons

Revolutionary War Weapons: Wars and battles are themselves revolutionary. The unique war weapons add more color to the wars. War weapons are the main components for any war. One of the chief war weapons used in the American Revolution is the muzzleloading flintlock musket. Other revolutionary war weapons include the rifle, pistol, swords and the cutting weapons. The smoothbore flintlock musket parallels the strength of gauge shotguns. These weapons used black powder as the main ingredient. Another very powerful weapon includes the cannon. They were considered to be as the queen of the battle field. The cannons were so powerful that if you had no cannons you are lost in the war.

Cannons used to blast solid balls to attack their enemies. Another very common revolutionary war weapon includes the flintlock pistol. The pistol was very powerful and is preserved in the Valley Forge Museum. Morters very popular during the wars and different mortars were used for different purposes. For land the mortars were different and for the sea they were different.

A very popular American Revolutionary War weapon is the howitzers. These had short barrels and light charge. The revolutionary war weapons also included the swivel gun. The swivel gun was a small cannon but its power was very high. The power and the effectiveness of the swivel allowed it to shoot at any corners of the battle field. Another very important revolutionary war weapon was the projectiles.

Some of the revolutionary war weapons have now become antiques. The revolutionary war antiques include the hand forged revolutionary war saber, revolutionary war officers sword, war infantry hanger, brass cannon and carved wooden carriage and naval spike spears. There are several other revolutionary war antiques too available. These include the Tomahawk and the revolutionary knife.

Another major part of the revolutionary war was the revolutionary war uniforms. The war uniforms used to be blue, brown and red in color. Everything from the dress to the hats were perfect during the revolutionary war. Apart from the weapons and uniforms, the flags used to be another major part of the revolutionary war. The flags represented pride of the country. These flags convey a message of history to us. The armies used to feel proud as they gathered around the flag. A lot of things made the revolutionary war a major historical event.

The Revolutionary War Weapons lead the show and are still doing that. The unique architecture of the weapons made them extremely powerful. These weapons have now become the revolutionary war antiques making the nation feel proud.

Revolutionary War Weapons

A musket is a muzzle-loaded, smooth bore long gun, which is intended to be fired from the shoulder.

Usually, the musket is thought to be the weapon that replaced the arquebus, and was in turn replaced by the rifle. But the term ?musket? has applied to a range of different weapons, starting with a long, heavy weapon with a matchlock or wheel lock and loose powder fired with the gun barrel resting on a stand, and ending with a lighter weapon with rifling and percussion caps, affixed with a bayonet. Muskets were primarily designed for use by infantry. A soldier primarily armed with a musket had the designation musketman or musketeer. Initially, 16th-century troops armed with a heavy version of the arquebus called a musket were specialists supporting the arquebusiers and pikemen formations. By the start of the 18th century, a lighter version of the musket had edged out the arquebus, and the addition of the bayonet edged out the pike, and almost all infantry became musketeers. In the 19th century, improvements in ammunition and firing methods allowed rifling to be practical for military use, and the rifled musket became common. About the time of the introduction of cartridge, breechloading, and multiple rounds of ammunition just a few years later, the term "rifled musket" gave way to "rifle", and "musket" fell out of fashion.

Typical musket calibres ranged from to . A typical smooth bore musket firing at a single target was only accurate to about to . Rifled muskets of the mid 19th century were significantly more accurate, with the ability to hit a man sized target at up to ."Arms and Equipment of the Civil War" By Jack Coggins, Published by Courier Dover Publications, 2004 The advantage of this extended range was demonstrated at the Battle of Four Lakes, where Springfield Model 1855 rifled muskets inflicted heavy casualties among the Indian warriors before they could get their smooth bore muskets into range."Gunsmoke and Saddle Leather: Firearms in the nineteenth-century American West" by Charles G. Worman, Published by UNM Press, 2005 However, in the Italian War of 1859, French forces were able to defeat the longer range of Austrian rifle muskets by aggressive skirmishing and rapid bayonet assaults at close quarters combat."War in the Age of Technology: Myriad Faces of Modern Armed Conflict" by Geoffrey Jensen, Andrew Wiest, Published by NYU Press, 2001
