Richard Bona is my favorite bassist living today. I've seen him perform live twice, something I highly recommend if his touring brings him to your town.
Bona is from Minta, in eastern Cameroon, where he grew up in a musical family. He began playing guitar at the age of 11 and switched his focus to electric bass around the age of 13, after discovering the music Jaco Pastorius.
Bona's first solo album, "Scenes from my Life", was released in 1999. Bona is also a much sought-after and recorded musician, having performed with Joe Zawinul, Pat Metheny, Mike Stern, the Jaco Pastorius World of Mouth Big Band, and the Brecker Brothers.
Bona currently lives in New York City.
