First we got a brand new home. Then we got a brand new puppy. And then we realized we needed a pet gate.

Since we were all at work or school during the day, having our puppy be completely free to roam all over our new home...with new carpets, new furniture, and new floors...meant that we needed to find a way to keep him contained while we were not at home. And the large size that we chose was able to span the wide opening between our living room and our family room that most gates don't do. I also loved the fact that it was freestanding, so there was no need to drill holes in the walls of our new home! Plus the rubber feet were perfect for protecting our new floors.

We found that it was easy to assemble and was well-made, with a beautiful wood finish. Once we set it up, we had the perfect barrier to keep our schnauzer out of the areas of our house that he should not be. At 20" high, it was easy for us to step over, yet kept him where we wanted him.

One thing that is important for anyone considering this product to know, is that there are different sizes and heights available, and you should make sure to get the gate that is high enough to keep your dog contained. The Richell Freestanding Pet Gate that we purchased was fine for our miniature schnauzer, because as a small dog that is not a jumper, we knew that it would keep him contained. This gate is great. I have an opening of about 110 in. I had to separate the kitchen and the family room, so I had to purchase two gates. The assembly was quite easy. I put them side by side so they fit perfectly. I have 2 small Maltese and was worried about them trying to push the gate with their snouts, they tried but were not able to move the gates. They are very nice looking and well made. I have gotten several compliments on these gates. I'm sorry I didn't order these sooner!

The decision to purchase this pet gate was based on much research online and in various pet supply catalogs to which I subscribe. There are very few pet gates available that are well finished and able to span a wide opening, and even less which are freestanding. This gate exceeded my expectations when I received it. Ease of assembly, sturdy construction, and appealing materials were expected from the description, the furniture quality finish was an added bonus. Set-up and adjustment were easily done and the result was a solid barrier which is easily stepped over or able to be swung out on the end for walk through access. The finish also complements the wood floors in the formal living room. I would definetly recommend this product to anyone in need of a barrier which is well made, attractive, fully adjustable and portable, and free from the door frame hardware that most require. The "Amazon" price and delivery further enhance the appeal of this unit.

We really love the gate we purchased and have been constantly been complimented on it usefullness and its beauty. Unlike the other types of dog gates or baby gates this one has the look of furniture.In our home, as you walk in the front door, the first thing you can see is the gate. We also love the fact that we did not have to put any unnecessary holes in our walls or woodwork. All in all, we love it. We would highly recommend it..
