Nascar Racing at Richmond Raceway!

NASCAR's top national series will make its 2008 debut at Richmond Raceway on Saturday, May 3, when The Crown Royal 400 NASCAR Series race runs "under the lights." Richmond Raceway will host the final Race before The Chase for the championship for the fifth consecutive year. The 2008 Chevy Rock & Roll 400-scheduled for Saturday, September 6-will set the field for next year's Chase for the NASCAR Cup.

Richmond Raceway History

Richmond Raceway is the only track remaining on the NASCAR circuit measuring 3/4-mile in length. The track's first race was on October 12, 1946 with Ted Horn winning what was at that time a 1/2 mile track.

Richmond has been through many name changes, starting out with the Atlantic Rural Exposition Fairgrounds. In 1955 the name was the Atlantic Rural Fairgrounds. 1967 brought the new name of Virginia State Fairgrounds, followed in 2 years by the Richmond Fairgrounds Raceway. In 1988 to the current date, the name was again changed to the Richmond International Raceway. The total seating capacity for the Richmond Raceway is 107,097.
