Rihanna

Rihanna - her full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty, was born in 1988. She's a Caribbean singer that has started to appear in 2005, when her single the first being "Pon de Replay" reached position #2 in both the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart.

Hate That I Love You - Rihanna

When it comes to musical acts today, Rihanna had struggled to find her footing as a serious act. That came well to fans with her hit Umbrella, but all she had really done were dance songs, and not branched out to a broader audience. That has shown well with ballads nicely, with Hate That I Love You, the third single from A Good Girl Gone Bad. her collaboration with soulful singer Ne-yo is one of the more soulful duets I've heard this past year, and shows a nice melodic tone the two share on the song. It shows she is finally trying to head in the right direction, and I hope it tries to work. I also hope she and Ne-yo should try to do another set of duets together. - Michael Kerner "Michael Kerner" (Brooklyn, New York U.S.A.)

Rihanna Good Girl Gone Bad

With 'Umbrella' and 'Shut Up And Drive'

There's a cool new development in summer singles: they no longer need to be sunny. In fact, the wetter the better.

"Umbrella," the first single off Rihanna's ragingly good third album, may be her strongest ditty yet, and that's saying something considering her run of past summer chartbusters. More stylish than "S.O.S." (from A Girl Like Me) and more interesting than "Pon de Replay" (from Music of the Sun), "Umbrella" barrels forward with big, brawny drums and a hot but haunted-sounding vocal. From there, the upbeat numbers chug forth like chilled pina colada mix into a blender: "Breakin' Dishes" trades skillfully on a recent vogue for man-directed venom, and "Shut Up and Drive" borrows "S.O.S."-style from the '80s New Order song "Blue Monday." Both are irresistible.

So, too, are a couple of late tracks. "Rehab" and "Lemme Get That," both produced by Timbaland, prove that being an island girl is no barrier to holding one's own amid a sizzling stew of urban beats. In fact, it's a boon--one that'll register with pop music fans instantly. - Tammy La Gorce

GOOD GIRL GONE BAD boasts the production skills of Timabland, C. Rihanna Hate That I Love You Lyrics

Featuring Ne-Yo

[Rihanna:]
That's much I love you (yeah)
That's how much I need you (yeah, yeah, yeah)
And I can't stand ya
Must everything you do
make me wanna smile
Can I not like you for awhile
(No..)

[Ne-Yo:]
but you won't let me
You upset me girl
and then you kiss my lips
All of a sudden I forget
that I was upset
Can't remember what you did
But I hate it

[Rihanna:]
You know exactly what to do
So that I can't stay mad at you
For too long, that's wrong

[Ne-Yo:]
But, I hate it
You know exactly how to touch
So that I don't wanna fuss and fight no more
Said I despise that I adore you

[Rihanna:]
And I hate how much I love you boy (yeah)
I can't stand how much I need you (I need you)
And I hate how much I love you boy (ooh)
But I just can't let you go
And I hate that I love you so..

[Ne-Yo:]
And you completely know the power that you have
The only one that makes me laugh

[Rihanna:]
Said and it's not fair how you take advantage of the fact that I
Love you beyond a reason why
And it just ain't right

[Ne-Yo:]
And I hate how much I love you girl
I can't stand how much I need you
And I hate how much I love you girl
But I just can't let you go
And I hate that I love you so

[Rihanna]
One of these days maybe your magic won't affect me
And your kiss won't make me weak
But no one in this world knows me the way you know me
So you'll probably always have a spell on me.. (yeah~oooh~)

[Rihanna (Ne-Yo):]
That's much I love you
That's much I need you
That's much I need you
That's much I love you
That's much I need you
I need you

[Rihanna:]
And I hate that I love you sooo...

[ Rihanna:]
And I hate how much I love you boy (Hey)
I can't stand how much I need you (I can't stand how much I need you)
And I hate how much I love you boy (yeah...ooh)
But I just can't let you go (But I just can't let you go, no)
And I hate that I love you so

[Both:]
And I hate that I love you so.. so..

Growing up in the parish of St. Michael, Barbados, it never occurred to Rihanna that one day she would be sitting in the company of mega music moguls.

Before moving to the US in 2005, Rihanna lived somewhat of a simple life on her home island where she attended high school and like most teenage girls sang songs for fun with her friends.

Aside from winning her school's beauty and talent pageant, Rihanna never realized how talented she really was until she attracted the attention of a New York City music producer named Evan Rogers. (Evan and his partner, Carl Sturken, have produced hits for such artists as Christina Aguilera, Ruben Studdard and Kelly Clarkson.) Evan and his Barbadian wife Jackie were vacationing over Christmas near Rihanna's hometown and through a mutual friend were introduced to the young diva.

After hearing her belt out a couple of tunes Evan realized Rihanna's future star power and invited her to New York to record some tracks.

Rihanna, Evan and Carl ended up creating close to a dozen songs. Together they pulled inspiration from the dancehall and reggae that are embedded in Rihanna's rich musical culture and fused it with a fresh R&B soul sound - a mixture Rihanna likes to compare to one of her favorite Caribbean dishes, callaloo. "It's like a gumbo or a stew," explains Rihanna. "My music is mostly Caribbean beats mixed with R&B. I don't want to be pigeon holed into being just a dance artist because I can sing too. I have ballads on the album as well as upbeat tracks."
