Ringworm Symptoms

The signs of ringworm look like its name. It forms a red, elevated, rapidly growing, ringlike sore on the skin. The center of the ring may be clear. The sore itself may contain scales, crust, or fluid-filled areas. It can be uncomfortable to really irritating.

Is Ringworm Contagious?

Ringworm is highly contagious. So try to avoid touching suspicious lesions.
Be sure to maintain proper hygiene by washing your hands and body frequently and laundering the linens and clothes of an infected family member separately.

Also avoid contact sports such as wrestling until you have been treating the lesions for at least 48 hours to avoid infecting others.

Causes of Ringworm

The causes for ringworm on body are about the same with the causes that lead to all types of ringworm. Touching an infected human or animal will lead, in most cases to body ringworm. Is not necessary to be in direct contact, in some cases an indirect contact may be enough to get infected. The indirect contact consists of touching objects or clothes that got in touch with an infected person or animal. In few cases the ringworm might be caused by touching the soil.

Ringworm Prevention

To avoid ringworm infection in the first place, avoid contact with suspicious lesions, try to wear loose-fitting clothes and avoid sharing clothes. After showering, dry off completely and air dry. Examine family members for signs of ringworm as re-infection may occur.
