original paintings by Helen Harris

Rip it up and paint is the stress free technique I use to create original watercolor/ mixed media paintings.

Rip it up & use it!

stress free watercolors

Watercolor painting is often said to be difficult to learn. Mistakes cannot be undone and changes are impossible. Not so!
The signature style of my original paintings are compostions painted and literally composed of ripped papers and "mistake" riddled paintings. The most difficult task in my painting is reaching the decision to rip up work that I have invested time and effort.
It is just that effort that made me look twice at those pieces in the trash and think of a way to use some of those inspired pieces.
I invite you to follow my progress in this discovery with my blog http:/pineshorestudio.blogspot.com and visit my web site www.helenharrispaintings.com

You are not "decorating" your painting.

When I demonstrate my techniques or give a workshop,I must immediately tell my audiences that each piece of paper that is collaged into the painting must become a part of the surface. It should add to the surface texture fitting into the overall design. Think of it as a puzzle. You are finding pieces of color, texture and shape to build up the overall impact of the image.

Clever recycling, the concept is so obvious but one that I'm sure is quite unique. Welcome to The Painting Group!

Alyson Stanfield's new book gives a "no-excuses" approach to art marketing. I keep it by my desk. Ideas are great but this book has helped me put those ideas into action.Take a look at her marketing newsletter.

    About HelenHarris

I am an artist living "down the shore."A transplant from upstate New York, my love of rocks, trees and mountains has remained strong while adding the vistas of the ocean and sands of New Jersey. My paintings are expressions of these sites and my connection to them.
