Seth Brown: The Rising Pun

Ranked #137,146 in Entertainment, #1,455,265 overall

This is a page by me, of me, and for me. It's the kind of page that Abraham Lincoln would have loved, if it were a government and I were the people. I guess it's also for you; to give you everything you could possibly need to know about Seth Brown, aka The Rising Pun, aka Me.

You should also go to my website at RisingPun.com, but that one I cobbled together myself, whereas this one is smoothly templated by the squid people, whom I can only presume worship Cthulhu, although like Cthulhu's creator, I Love my Craft.

The Leth & Sex Newscast

The funniest headlines you'll hear here.

My friend Lex Friedman and I do a weekly comedy podcast. You should listen to it because not only is it a much funnier way of keeping up with the news than CNN, but it's free. You can download each week's episode, share it with all your friends, and we'll never call RIAA goons on you.

Ham-STAR

The world's greatest hamster rapper

A few years ago, I heard some great songs by a rap group called Blackalicious. I emailed them to ask if I could join them, and while they weren't interested in me, they were interested in my hamster.

Ham-STAR was rejected from Blackalicious, but a few years later, he now has his own Myspace page, and released a few songs on the Rhyme Torrents album. You can listen or download them for free.

Here are some of my favorite Transcript columns. If you want more, you can check out RisingPun.com
Man of the Cloth
I'm not a very religious person, although I play one on TV. Well, I don't actually play one on TV, but I've seen religious people on TV. And one thing I remember...
If Music Be The Food Of Love
If you catch mono from kissing someone, you should kiss other sick people until you can catch it again, that way you can have stereo. And while I probably won't treble my readership with bass jokes like that...
All You Need Is Love
For many years, humanity has asked the burning question "What is love?" For a few years we also followed it with the plea "Oh baby, don't hurt me, Don't hurt me no more," but then we realized...
The Smell Of Fear
I really love Indian food, probably even more than I love a big corned beef sandwich on rye. I guess you could say I prefer the New Delhi to the Old Deli. And that quick punchline is what we call a punjab, even if it doesn't curry your favor...

Think You're The Only One?
Published by Barnes & Noble in 2004, this book is a collection of profiles of bizarre groups from around the country, ranging from the Mothers Against Peeing Standing Up to the Cheese Racing Association to the ever-popular Church of the Sub-Genius. It's the perfect bathroom book.
Shards
Written for National Novel Writing Month in 2005, this is my first novel. It's the tale of a computer programmer who quits his reliable day job to focus on his art. You can read the first chapter or so for free online.

If you're buying the new one anyway, the old one isn't much more.

The Style Invitational
A weekly humor contest in the Washington Post. I don't enter as often as I used to, but I still appear now and then.
The Omnificent English Dictionary In Limerick Form (OEDILF)
Rewriting the OED in Limericks is a great idea. I wrote a few hundred before realizing I should really be working one of my books instead.
BBSpot
After my second win in their annual Geek Limerick Contest, I began writing weekly limericks for them.
Erma Bombeck Humor Writer's Workshop
I attended the 2006 conference and met lots of interesting people. Maybe even you! I still lurk on the listserver.
The Providence Journal
In another era (or at least another millenium), I had a Sunday rhyming political column here. No more.
The North Adams Transcript
My current humor column "The Pun Also Rises" appears here, every Friday.
