Let me ... introduce you!
Over the last two decades Swiss artist Pipilotti Rist has generated a vast body of work in diverse media, from video, installation and design to sound and written projects.
Slick and superficial, corrupted and clean, Rist's art erupts in unbridled and indulgent sensorial pleasure.

Pipilotti Rist's contribution to the 51st Venice Biennale (2005) provided the exhibition's most decadent art experience, with projections on the ceiling of baroque Chiesa di San Stae sweeping the viewer into the soaring dreamscape of her work.

- Self-possessed, stylish, and smart
- "Pipilotti Rist is the kind of artist you can get a big crush on. Her work wills you into its charm, and so does she. Self-possessed, stylish, and smart, she seems at one with the lush and enchanting worlds she creates in her media extravaganzas ..." (An interview by Jane Harris)

- Swiss bliss
- A review in the Village Voice: "Drifting through Rist's trippy, trance-inducing, overdone pleasure dome of an installation at Luhring Augustine-involving no less than 15 video projections, many of them emanating from or appearing on pieces of furniture-is like reading Virginia Woolf." (By Jerry Saltz)

Ever is over all, my favorite work
And her most famous work, too.
Pipilotti Rist is best known for her double video projection 'Ever is over all', 1997, (photo) which is set to mesmerizing music composed by Anders Guggisberg. One image features a young woman wearing a light blue dress and red shoes; she carries a flower called a red-hot poker that has been cast in metal and uses it to smash the windows of cars parked along her path. That image is juxtaposed with a video featuring a garden of red-hot pokers, a swirling abstraction of enlarged stalks and colourful blossoms. (Source: Art Now)
As seen on MTV?
She gets that a lot.
Rist's combinations of strong soundtracks and vibrant moving images has led to her work being compared to music videos. Many of the video pieces, including 'Sip my ocean', 1996, and 'I'm not the girl who misses much', 1986, make direct references to popular music and the genre of music videos, recasting songs by Chris Isaak and John Lennon respectively. Spaces in which to view videos
Her other work: installations.
In addition to making videos, Rist constructs spaces in which to view them. 'Das Zimmer', 1994, (photo) includes an oversized red leather sofa and a television featuring a selection of her videos. A large-scale remote control labelled 'Pipi TV' allows viewers to choose the videos they watch.'Himalaya Goldsteins Stube, 1997-99, approximates the playful ambience of a young woman's apartment. Monitors and projectors are inset into walls and furniture so that moving images appear on the sofas, chairs, lampshades and tables. Like the pervasive tune in 'Ever is over all', the piece's haunting melody adds to the overall ambience and engaging experience of the installation. Viewers are invited to make themselves at home, sit on the furniture, wander around the rooms and watch her videos. (Source: Art Now)
