Have you ever questioned the price of an ebook? Well, when it comes to private label rights (PLR) ebooks or master resell rights (MRR) rights ebooks, I question the price all the time.

When I buy something, I expect the price to at least reflect the value that I'm getting, or I expect to get more value, than what I'm paying. I'm sure you'll agree with me when I say that nobody likes to unintentionally pay too much for something. So, if you assume that when you buy something, you're at least getting value equal to the price you're paying, what is the value of something, when there is a lot of price variation?

Generally, the seller of PLR and MRR ebooks can sell the ebook for as low or as high a price as they want. This means that the same ebook can cost $1 on one site and $17 on another. In such cases, what is the real value of the ebook?

What does PLR mean?
Private label rights (PLR) is a type of license that certain digital products have. The product creator chooses to attach PLR to his or her product and also decides the terms of that license. Even though PLR licenses can differ, the 2 most common terms of such a license are that the product can be edited or changed, and that the product can be sold. Also, most PLR licenses allows the seller to pass on PLR on to their customers. In other words, the seller can sell the product with or without PLR to his or her customer.

What's the issue with price?
Well, since the seller can sell the ebook for any price and can also pass on PLR to their customer, their customer can also sell the ebook they just bought, and for any price.

Here's an example: Person A buys a PLR ebook from a site for $5. Person A wants to make sure he makes his money back as soon as possible, so he sells it from his site for $7. Person B buys it from A and sells it for $3, because she wants to make a lot of sales. Person C buys it from B, but instead of selling it, C gives it away for free. Person D downloads it from C's site and sells it for only $1, since he got it for free.

Okay, now in this scenario, the same ebook is either being sold for $1, $3, $5, $7 or given away for free. So, which price best reflects the value of the ebook? Even though this is an example, it illustrates just how easy it is for a PLR or MRR product, in this case, a PLR ebook, to have a wide range of prices.

If you can't follow prices, how do you determine value?
The truth is I don't know... that's kind of my point. You can't know for certain the value, unless you actually see the ebook. I suppose you could work out some value without first seeing the product, by considering a range of factors such as:
The number of pages and chapters
What the ebook promises to answer (e.g. on it's sales page)
How restrictive or liberal the license terms are
quality of preview of ebook, if given

    I've not read it yet but I have bought a few other ebooks over the years some of which have been worth the investment. Valuing an ebook is hard but as long as the buyer benefits then your business will grow.

    Bought an ebook on vegan cooking once. The first recipe was for jacket potato! The second was for tofu scrambled egg which 'does not taste like scrambled egg', with vegan sausages, ('go to the health food shop and buy some vegan sausages'..........rather been put off ever since!
