Roatan Island

Roatan Island, Honduras is the largest of the bay Islands with a mountainous backbone and surrounded by the 2nd largest living barrier reef in the world.

The islanders' cuisine includes many foods that grow naturally on Roatan, such as bananas and plantains, mangoes and guavas, breadfruit, coconut and cassava, and key limes. Typical foods found included in meals are often seafood, chicken, beans, and rice.

Apparently, street food is all you need to get a better feel for the island's local Caribbean eats.
Try some chicken tamales with cheese and beans or delicious fried plantains. My mother and grandmother both come from Roatan and prepared those dishes from time to time and I loved it.

Should you decide to dine out on the island, you will find a large variety of foods from all over the world. However, if sticking to the typical Roatan meal, you may find the following on the menu:
Banana, cassava, and coconut breads, conch fritters, conch soup, (often in a yellow curry base, with a side of homemade coconut bread), key lime pie, mango chutney, guava jam, baked mango dessert and tangy mango salsa .

Some say that after ordering, keep your patience, because you will have to wait a little. However, once the food arrives, it was worth the wait.
