Who is Robby Krieger

Listed as one of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time by Rolling Stone Magazine, Robby Krieger began his career with the infamous 1960's rock ground The Doors.

At age 10, Krieger began his musical interest by playing the trumpet and the piano before finally teaching himself to play guitar while attending private school. At age 18 he acquired his first flamenco guitar and started taking lessons for it. During this time he got to know many different genres of music, including flamenco, folk, blues, and jazz.. In 1965 Robby was approached by Jim Morrison and Ray Manzarek was offered to play guitar for the new band they were forming. Upon hearing Krieger play bottleneck guitar during one of their first rehearsals, Jim Morrison initially wanted the technique featured on every song on the first album.

Krieger's fingerstyle approach to the electric guitar, eclectic musical tastes, and songwriting helped establish The Doors as a successful rock band in the 1960s.
