Rob Duffy at a Glance

Robert Duffy (born 2 December 1982) is a WelshSheep footballer who currently plays for Mansfield Town. He is a former Welsh Youth and Under-21 international.

The Robert Duffy Story So Far

Robert Duffy is a Welsh footballer who currently plays his football in the Blue Square Premier with Mansfield Town. Duffy was released in the summer of 2008 by Oxford United Football Club after an unsuccessful loan spell at Wrexham towards the end of the 2007/08 season. Robert Duffy found himself to be out of favour at the Kassam Stadium in the 2007/08 season, and despite having been Oxford's top goalscorer in 2006/07; his display of laziness in the last campaign had led to him being dropped from the side and shipped out on loan.

Wrexham were relegated from the English League 2 to the Blue Square Premier in the 2007/08 season, Rob Duffy took little part for Wrexham and failed to get his name on the scoresheet. Oxford weren't interesting in keeping him, Wrexham didn't wish to acquire him, and in summer 2008 Robert Duffy therefore found himself to be without a club and unemployed. Newport County saw Duffy's potential however, and with him having been Oxford's top scorer in 2006/07 it is obvious that he can pose a great goal scoring threat and on his day can score a lot of goals (Duffy actually scored a hat-trick against Forest Green Rovers in October 2006 for Oxford).

Robert Duffy was signed by Newport County along with another of Oxford's 2007/08 season players; Danny Rose. Danny Rose is showing his fine skill at Newport, he's already contributed a number of goals for the side; Duffy however had a more difficult job fitting in at the Newport Stadium, and finally managed his first goal for the club on September 9th 2008 (Duffy scored one of five Newport goals in a 5-4 win against Dorchester Town in the First Round of the Setanta Shield).

As well as having played for Wrexham and Oxford; before arriving at Newport County, Robert Duffy has also played for a number of sides including Rushden & Diamonds, Cambridge United, and Stevenage Borough. Duffy actually started his career at Rushden as a product of the sides youth system before finally moving on in 2005. As a Rushden player he made 32 appearances for the first team, providing many of these appearances as a substitute.

During Duffy's time at Oxford he showed some great signs of potential, the player is still only 25 years of age and will most definitely be hoping to make an impression at Mansfield Town and impress the manager. The future could well be bright for Robert Duffy, if he manages to replicate his form of the 2006/07 season then he will no doubt become a true fans favourite at Mansfield.

Robert Duffy's Goal Scoring Record

Duffy scored very few goals whilst with Newport County, at Oxford United was where he really made a name for himself however as during his time there he scored 24 times in just 56 appearances. Many of these goals were scored from penalties, Duffy did however also score a number of excellent goals from open play and always is very strong when moving forward.

Robert Duffy was Oxford United's top goalscorer in the 2006/07 season, scoring 18 goals in 36 appearances. During this season Rob Duffy also provided six assists for his side.

Duffy scored on his Mansfield debut in a 1-0 home win over Crawley Town.

Three reasons to love Rob Duffy

1. He's an excellent penalty taker.

2. He has a great habit of being in the right place at the right time.

3. Even when he's not scoring, having Rob Duffy on the field will always scare opposition defenders and they'll feel the need to draw players to him meaning that other men remain unmarked and it's easier for others to find space and score goals.
