Robert McCammon

a brief bio

Swan Song by: Robert McCammonRobert Rick McCammon was born in the Southern city of Birmingham, Alabama in 1952. His parents divorced early, leaving Robert to be raised primarily by his grandparents. McCammon worked odd jobs while obtaining his B.A. in Journalism from the University of Alabama in 1974. While dreaming of better days, McCammon penned his first novel at the age of 25. Baal is that novel's title, and it was published in 1978.
From 1977-1993 Robert McCammon published 12 novels and one book of short stories, Blue World. His most notable novels were Boy's Life, Gone South, Swan Song, Stinger, Mine, and The Wolf's Hour.

According to Mania.com Robert McCammon ranks number 17 on the all time greatest horror writers list. This ranking, however, is even admittedly low by the article's author Tim Janson. Robert McCammon took nearly a decade off from writing (due mostly to his publishers inability to work with him compounded by the shear stress and distaste the business had left him with), and had this absence not occurred, his ranking would most likely be closer to that of Stephen King or Dean Koontz.

After McCammon's leave of absence reached it's tenth year, it was time for his return. Finding a smaller independent publisher to publish his 13th novel and the first of his Matthew Corbett series (A series of books that take place during the 1700's), Robert McCammon published Speaks the Nightbird in 2002. The other novels in the growing Matthew Corbett series is, The Queen of Bedlam and Mister Slaughter . The next installment The Providence Rider is due out in May of 2012! Robert McCammon has made his return to contemporary fiction with his new novel The Five , and a collection of short stories due late in 2011, The Hunter from the Woods.

Mini McCammon Book Reviews and/or history

Short Reviews of some Robert McCammon books.

The First of McCammon's Novel's and also the first attempt he ever made at writing a book. Although McCammon declares it is a weak start at a craft he had the fortunate ability to do in public. A feat not seen by many writers and further proof of his ever present talent which enabled his career. The story unfolds on the rape of young woman who delivers the ultimate demon "Baal." Although it pales to the incredible character development we see in later McCammon novels, it's still nice to see where it all began.
