What is it like to be the chairman of a famous charity like Brooklyn New York-based Children of the City? Rocco Basile is experienced on this matter, and he savors every minute of this job. He is associated with Children of the City for a long time, and though he now controls a thriving enterprise called as Basile Builders, Rocco takes enjoyment in giving assistance.

According to Rocco Basile, lack of education is the root of most of the difficulties in this country, and he believes that training our youth, will help reduce crime, poverty and violence. This is what Children of the City has been working on in the past thirty years. Children of the City has been serving the underprivileged children in Sunset Park, Brooklyn since 1981, and the organization begun as a children's prevention outreach in the early years.

The well-known charity recently held its Annual Benefit Gala on July 20, 2011, as always at The Lighthouse Chelsea Piers in New York City. The gala celebrated the Brooklyn-based charity's 30th anniversary and was its annual celebrity studded fundraising event. The celebrities were commemorating along with founder Joyce Mattera (center of photo) 30 years of rescuing many of the city's most at risk youngsters.

In an effort to change the culture of poverty, Children of the City acts to connect those in need of resources that will address their existing crises. People find help for financial and career advice, social and life skills coaching, legal guardianship, and much more.

Mattera uttered, "Our goals haven't altered since 1981: to extend a hand to inner-city youth in danger as well as to their families. I caught a glimpse at these disadvantaged children 30 years back, and I knew that I couldn't simply ignore them. Over the years, so many celebrities have joined in helping rescue our most vulnerable children."

The services that the organization delivers comprise of educational support, counseling and mentorship. Its common local programs consist of: Strong Minds and Strong Homes, which is an outreach composed of volunteers.Create Success is an after school and summer approach emphasizing supporting each student's academic success via tutoring and daily aid with homework. College Bound is yet another program that reaches to benefit juniors and seniors in high school who have aspirations to proceed to college.FutureSafe is an event each month which is synchronized, and is even joined by 500 children at an average to help children away from misbehavior, drug abuse, teen pregnancy and gang involvement. Heal New York addresses critical ordeals and present mental health and social concerns.

In every month, there are thousands of children who are visited in addition to services that are delivered to more than a hundred per week. Referrals generate a relationship within the families to the Children of the City's ally agencies, for the exact purpose of putting an end to the cycle of poverty and abuse.
