For Halloween This Year, I'm Going To Be....

... Hip deep in Ghosts!

Rochester (formerly Rochesterville) has been known, if you believe in the local and national legends, to be populated with the spirits of Ghosts. Our most famous inhabitant from the other side is our very own "Lady in White".

The Lady in White

Although many other cities have a Lady in White haunting around, Rochester is the most famous as documented by the movie by the same title released in 1988 by Frank LaLoggia. This ghost reportedly haunts Durand Eastman Park. Also known to haunt the remains of a long gone eatery or hotel, depending on your resource, and now is referred to as her castle.

From a very young age James Van Praagh was aware of a dimension that most of us cannot see, and he has dedicated his life to explaining it to the rest of us. The New York Times bestseller Ghosts Among Us takes us on an incredible journey into the spirit world that brings to light one of our greatest mysteries-what happens to us after we die?

Let the other side have it!

Your dismissal of Ghosts is idiotic!

Michey says:

If the spirits are around us, we must believe in ghosts as well... sound logic to me.

Lexi Rose says:

46 mitchell st Rochester ny. Ive always thought that place was haunted. My baby sisters were terrifed of the bathroom and would not go in alone nor close the door. I always felt watched there too. Also I saw a ghost that had a flannel shirt and suspenders in a house in Sea breeze area; can't recall the address. I didn't live there long, but Sea breeze is notorious for being haunted too.

PattieGreenEyes says:

I grew up in a house in Rochester, 258 Winton Rd. S., that IS haunted by something. It was frightening, I saw a shadow man, my face morphed into someone elses in my bedroom mirror, my mother, my 3 sisters and I all had terrifying experiences.. My mother a Registered Nurse and Medical Secretary had many family and friend connections who witnessed apparitions, voices, feelings of foreboding and dread. Appliances would turn on in the middle of the night, an ax from the garage (which was locked) was thrown thru one of our kitchen windows as we all slept, none of us heard the commotion we normally would have heard. The ax some how landed far to the side of the wall it faced that headed to our basement and was in the middle of the kitchen floor. Faces were seen during the winter peering into windows, when police were called there were no foot prints or any trace of anyone breaking into the garage, or leading to the windows where a male face was seen by my elder sister, her then fiancee, his friend Rick and my mother after a ski trip late at night. Doors opened and slammed we heard the dead bolts turn and the front or kitchen doors open, we would lock ourselves in my mothers bedroom and called the police, but when the police arrived, there was the dead bolt locked on every door. And many people refused to come to our house at any time of day or night, but I do believe the nights were the worst, though I felt the dread any time I had to be in that house. I personally ran away to get away from the dark presence in that house. I never returned to that home again, my mother re-married and they finally moved into a new home that was blessedly ghost free.

KonaGirl says:

I have personally had too many encounters not to believe in the spirit world.

BuckHawk says:

Why wouldn't ghosts be real in some form of another? We can't be that egotistical to think that spirits don't share our space. Besides, I have my own experience to relate at some time.

Ghosts are a delusion of a warped mind!

Wow - I grew up in Rochester, NY and never heard that parts of it were 'haunted'. I've even been to Mount Hope Cemetery, but never heard the ghost stories. But, my brother lived on the edge of Durand Eastman Park for many years; I'll have to ask him if he ever had any 'strange' experiences! Fun story for this former Rochester native to learn something new about the area.
