Is Dave Grohl, leader of Foo Fighters and former drummer with Nirvana, The Nicest Man In Rock? Everyone - journalists, other musicians, his mother - says he is. But is he really? Here's the case against. For one thing, these days he may be a happily married father of two, but after his first marriage ended, he had a John Lennon-style "Lost Weekend"."I moved to Los Angeles for one year in 1997. That was post-divorce," remembers the 42-year-old who, via his two Nirvana albums and six Foo Fighters releases, can lay claim to record sales of 25 million copies. He didn't lose himself in a haze of drug abuse, "but I did all of the other things..."
So, he's a sleazeball. Well, he was. Briefly. Fourteen years ago. "And that's it. That was enough for me, that one year. Because how could that possibly make you feel fulfilled? That momentary reward isn't enough."
More evidence for the prosecution: Foo Fighters have been chugging onwards, pumping out sturdy pop-rock hit singles (This Is A Call, Everlong, Times Like These) since 1995, the year after Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain shot himself. Barrett Jones: Dave used only Zildjian A's (the one time he used something else was with Scream when he had a 28" Paiste for a Ride/Crash. They didn't make many of those and he broke that one within a year!).
HEADS
Aquarian + Remo
Jones: We only used Aquarian Hi-Energy heads on the snare as it was the only brand that wouldn't break. The Tom heads were Remo Pinstripes on the top and Clear Ambassadors on the bottoms (these heads were changed before every show). The Kick head was a Remo Clear Powerstroke II, and on the outside was usually an Ebony Ambassador with a 6" hole off-centre.
HARDWARE
Tama Titan Series + Sonor Custom
Jones: Mostly Tama, but we had a special Hi-Hat stand by Sonor, since it was the only kind that was tall enough for him; we would have two with us on tour in case one got messed up.
Mike Dalke: The thing I remember specifically is that the cymbal stands would be gaffer taped and sand-bagged to the riser so firmly that the force from Dave's sticks would go from the cymbal directly to the spindle at the top of the stand, and the spindles would only last about four shows at the most. I think that Tama may have corrected the flaw but, at the time, it was as if the cymbals would cut right through the metal at the top of the stand. Dave, on two occasions, hit the crash so hard that the top of the stand cracked off and the cymbal came flying into his lap; it looked like some kind of practical joke, but it was real.
PEDAL
DW 5000 Turbo
Dalke: Pretty much every piece of the pedal broke at different stages of the tour. We had three: one on the drum, one on the side for back-up, and one in the workbox for parts. The chains, and the nut that fastened the chain to the pedal, would snap on a regular basis. DW really has increased the durability of these pedals, I think that all of the broken ones from Dave may have caused them to do more improvements. It cannot be overstated how hard Dave is on drums, cymbals and pedals!

Travis Barkers Career
In 1998, Travis Barker replaced Blink 182's drummer, Scott Raynor, when Scott failed to show up on time for their gig. Since Travis Barker was there anyways playing with his band "The Aquabats", he was somewhat familiar with Blink 182's set. After that show Travis quit the Aquabats and continued to Tour with Blink 182.
While playing with Blink 182 Travis Barker had many side projects including: Box Car Racer, The Transplants, and doing the drum tracks for Pink's CD "Try This". Travis has also been in music videos for P.Diddy, New Found Glory, Bubba Sparxxx, Black Eyed Peas, N.E.R.D., Xzibit, and Outkast.
In 2005 Blink-182 broke up, but Travis Barker, and Mark Hoppus stayed together and formed the band "+44". They have released a CD entitled "When Your Heart Stops Beating" and Travis has continued being successful by doing studio sessions for Avril Lavigne and Expensive Taste.
Travis Barker is definitely one of those drummers who will never stop being successful. So far Travis Barker's career has been everything that up and coming drummers can only dream of becoming. Not only do his fans, and band mates respect him, but he also has the respect of the whole music industry in general....

Howard was born in Stockport, Greater Manchester, in England. When he was around 8 years old he moved with his family to Teignmouth, a small town in Devon. He began playing drums at about the age of 12, when he was inspired by a jazz band performing at school.
Howard's first band was named Carnage Mayhem, which he was in at school. Meanwhile, he befriended Matt Bellamy, who played guitar but did not have a stable band. Not long after, Bellamy was faced with the chance of entering Howard's band. After two years of drop-outs after Bellamy suggested that they write their own songs, only Howard and Bellamy remained. Chris Wolstenholme, who played drums in "Fixed Penalty", then entered the scene and with a great "spirit of sacrifice" he began to play bass.
In the first months of 1994 Gothic Plague was born, followed by Rocket Baby Dolls and then finally Muse....

- In 2004, his father, William Howard, came to watch Muse's performance at Glastonbury 2004; a concert which Matthew Bellamy described as "the best gig of our lives". Just after their performance finished, William died from a heart attack. Through support from his family and fellow band members Dominic recovered, and Muse managed to continue their tour.
- Around the time that Absolution was released, he was on several occasions seen wearing a black shirt with ruffles down the front. Wearing said shirt, he famously stated, when questioned by Zane Lowe on MTV2's Gonzo, that his favourite type of cheese was Brie, quashing internet rumours that he likes Roulé.
- According to Howard, the song which he would like played at his funeral is 'Don't Stop me Now' by Queen, mainly due to him being a big fan of Queen.
- He would like to have a drink with Jimi Hendrix - "He was just such a cool guy; the way he played, how he seemed to be in his personal life or whenever he was being interviewed, he just seemed like a really cool cat", and the first thing he wanted to say to Hendrix is - "Good riff, man!"
- At the band's 14th November 2006 arena show at the Birmingham NEC, Howard told a fan that he disliked playing Knights of Cydonia at the end of the set because it leaves him "knackered". However he did state that the riff at the end is chilling.
- In the 2nd disc of the Hullabaloo DVD, he can be seen in a Slipknot mask making Bellamy laugh uncontrollably by repeatedly yelling, in a mock Slipknot 'vocal' fashion, "Sit the f**k down!". Contrary to popular belief, Howard did not steal the mask, but was given it by a female fan when Muse played with Slipknot at Metalfest in Spain some years ago. He says that he still has the mask and thinks it is probably in a box hidden underneath his bed somewhere. He chuckles: "I'll dig it out one of these days and put it on again."

When System Of A Down went on a self-imposed hiatus two years ago, many knew that it wouldn't be the last time the world would hear from these metallic talents. Soon thereafter, two different projects cropped up from within the act-frontman Serj Tankian's solo project, and guitarist/vocalist Daron Malakian's Scars On Broadway. The two didn't have to look far to locate drumming talent, as System drummer John Dolmayan volunteered his services for both projects. "The bottom line," Dolmayan says, "was that these guys are friends of mine, so I completely supported them in their endeavors."
With Tankian, Dolmayan contributed by performing on a few tracks for his solo debut, Elect The Dead (along with drummer Bryan "Brain" Mantia).
