Right from the beginning, they were controversial with the oedipal breakdown of "The End," right up to the infamous New Haven arrest and Miami incident to which he was still awaiting incarceration upon his death in 1971.

Green Day American Idiot Poster

American Idiot - the smash 2004 Green Day album

Green DayGreen Day American Idiot Poster

The album American Idiot was created as a concept album, but it wasn't originally intended that way. While recording the follow up to the 2000 album Warning, the band's master recordings for the new album, titled Cigarettes and Valentines, were stolen. Rather than re-record the songs, the band decided to write all new material in the form of a rock concept album. The result was American Idiot, with Mike Dirnt calling the tape theft a "blessing in disguise." rock posters pageAmerican Idiot has gone on to become the band's most popular work along with 1994's Dookie.

This album marked a change in style for the band, and one of the biggest comebacks in rock history. Green Day's popularity was beginning to wain as the 2000's came, and the album Warning failed to chart anywhere near to the success of previous albums. That changed with the 2004 album American Idiot, as the band began to try something new... a concept album. You won't find what you're used to on this Green Day release, it has 8 minute songs and a story arc that spans the entire album, but somehow it works. You can find the hit title track, "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," "Wake Me Up When September Ends," and "Jesus of Suburbia" on this excellent rock record.

Sublime
Sublime Poster

The 90's largely weren't about heavy metal, it was about grunge and punk. As Guns N' Roses dissolved, alternative rock dominated the airwaves, and punk made a comeback due to bands like The Offspring, Green Day, and Rancid, Sublime fit in perfectly, gracing the rock radio world with their debut album, 40 oz. to Freedom, in 1992. Their third and final album is what they are best known for, with the hits "Santeria," "What I Got," and "Wrong Way." The band employed a ska punk sound that was a refreshing burst of energy on the rock radio charts in the mid nineties. However, the band's career was tragically cut short in 1996 after the death of singer Bradley Nowell. The band has decided to continue on years later, with the project Sublime with Rome.

Guns N Roses - SkullGuns N' Roses Poster

Guns N' Roses dominated the late 80's rock scene with their massive album "Appetite for Destruction," and later, in 1991, Use Your Illusion (I & II). In a short period of time, the band was being called the "next Rolling Stones." Unfortunately, the band's egos got out of control, with Slash, Duff McKagan, Matt Sorum, and Izzy Stradlin all leaving in the 90's. Original drummer, Steven Adler, was fired in 1990. The "new" Guns N' Roses lives on, fronted by Axl Rose and a new group of revolving musicians. In 2008, the very long awaited Chinese Democracy was released, which is actually a solid record (though not what many GN'R fans were expecting). What most people remember the band for is the classic lineup of Slash, Duff, Axl, Izzy, and Steven Adler. Relive those glory days with this classic GN'R poster!

Led Zeppelin Stairway to Heaven Poster

The greatest rock song ever written?

Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven
Led Zeppelin Stairway to Heaven Poster

Is Stairway to Heaven really that good?
According to Jimmy Page, the song:
"...crystallized the essence of the band. It had everything there and showed the band at its best... as a band, as a unit. Not talking about solos or anything, it had everything there. We were careful never to release it as a single. It was a milestone for us. Every musician wants to do something of lasting quality, something which will hold up for a long time and I guess we did it with 'Stairway'. Townshend probably thought that he got it with Tommy. I don't know whether I have the ability to come up with more. I have to do a lot of hard work before I can get anywhere near those stages of consistent, total brilliance."

One can't talk about classic punk rock music without first mentioning The Ramones. Though the band never reached huge commercial success, they are largely considered the first punk rock band, and the godfathers of the punk rock movement that took hold of the US and UK in the 70's and 80's. Any band that plays punk music today owes it to the Ramones for their innovation and origination. The band is no longer intact, as three of the four members are deceased.
