Rock Tour is a downloadable video game where you pick a band, manage them, and help them become a national phenomenon. If you haven't tried this time management meets tycoon game, you definitely should. This lens talks about gameplay in detail and also discusses some of the top gameplay strategies, hints, and tips. About Rock Tour Tycoon

Manage your own rock band to success and fame

Rock Tour - choose your band

Rock Tour, or Rock Tour Tycoon, is a unique casual game that combines both time management and tycoon game aspects. Time management games are like those constant clicking games like Diner Dash. You have to click at the right time to meet your objectives. Tycoon games are much more about strategy. Some might be turn-based, but they usually all focus on running a business or making profit, like in Restaurant Empire.

Rock Tour allows you to play the stories of 5 different rock bands. Of course, you have the option of renaming these bands. Each band has a different storyline, and as you play, special events occur that allow the storyline to unfold. For example, one story is about a band that makes music with special powers. Another story centers around the band helping kids. Some of the stories are pretty cuddly and cute, while others were just kind of so-so. The story isn't the end all be all of the game, however. Once you've completed the storyline, you probably haven't completed the goals to unlock the next band, so just keep playing! After the mysterious stranger tells you that you've helped all the bands successfully, you unlock the mission mode.

To reach all the game objectives, you'll have to book venues for your band, tell them when to practice and when to rest, write new songs, produce new CDs, do some advertising, negotiate salaries, buy new equipment, and perhaps even replace some of the more annoying band members. It's up to you to figure out how to increase the fan base and make millions!

Try the 1 hour free trial

For me personally, I always play the 1 hour free trial. That's one of the big perks of buying games from Big Fish Games. I downloaded Rock Tour on a whim some time ago. It sat on my desktop for a while, but once I finally got around to installing the free trial, I knew I was hooked. Once my time was up, I bought the game and that was that! Buy Rock Tour from Big Fish Games for as low as $6.99.

How to Play Rock Tour

Basic gameplay tips and hints

Rock Tour - map

Keeping the tutorial on is a great way to get started in the game. There's really no need to read instructions before you start. Just dive in and get managing!

Choosing your band:

  • You can choose any band that is available to you to play. To unlock more bands, play through the ones available first.
  • You can rename your band as well as choose a new logo.
  • Finish all the stories to get a blue star for each of them. This will unlock the mission mode.

Choosing venues and booking gigs:
  • The main screen of the game has your band members on the left and a map on the right. Each star on the map represents an available venue.
  • Click on a star to open up the booking page. Here, you can choose the date for the gig (if there are multiple dates available), the songs for the gig (you must choose exactly 5), and whether you want to pay for any advertising.
  • You can also negotiate your cut of the ticket sales. However, the higher you go with the percentage, the less likely the deal will be accepted.
  • If you want too long, gigs will disappear. Use the pause button if necessary.
  • As you become more popular, the map zooms out to show you more area. Unfortunately, it's not possible to zoom back in.

Producing albums:
  • The first step is to get your songs recorded in the recording studio. If you don't see the recording studio on your map, just keep waiting and it will eventually show up.
  • In the recording studio, you can record or re-record any song that hasn't been released on an album yet.
  • You need one power song per album and ten to fourteen songs per album.
  • You can negotiate your percentage of the profits for each album.
  • To get more songs, nag your band members to write songs.
  • Albums will sell on their own after they are released. This is the only way in the game to make "passive" income.

Nagging your band members:
  • You can nag your band members to do several things: chilling, writing songs, practicing skills, practicing all songs, practicing best songs, practicing unfamiliar songs, and practicing show song list.
  • Chilling will help your band members reduce stress.
  • Writing songs will both increase song writing skills and new songs in your repertoire.
  • Practicing skills will increase instrument skill levels, which directly affects the "rock rating" of your band.
  • Practicing songs will increase a band member's familiarity with the music. This helps you max out recording quality as well as preventing the fans from complaining you sound unrehearsed.

Mission Mode:
  • Time missions include reaching 100 fans in some city far away, going platinum, making a million dollars, and more.
  • Each time you load a band you've already played through, a new mission will be randomly selected.

Rock Tour Strategy Guide

Get strategies, hints, tips, and cheats

This is a moderated list that allows any Squidoo member to contribute their Rock Tour strategies. Any irrelevant information will be removed. Join Squidoo to start contributing.

In particular, I have yet to beat any mission mode levels. If you have any great tips for that, they will be much appreciated!

Watch your band's stress levels

Stress level increases with every activity (gig, recording, or special events). Once the stress level gets too high, your band member will stop doing what you've nagged them to do. To keep productivity high, either let them chill or don't over work them.0 points

Smaller venues are not really worth it

Once your band really gets going, playing gigs at venues under 200 or 300 seats is not worth your time. You have to pay for gas and increase stress levels. All for what? A lousy $50 dollars?0 points

Smaller venues are unavoidable if you're trying to expand your fan base area

When you play smaller venues to increase your fan base, try to do several in the same place to cut down on expenses.0 points

You can cancel gigs

If there is a much better venue opportunity, feel free to cancel one you've already booked. There's no penalty, unlike in the recording studio.0 points

Save up a couple of new songs before practicing them

I find it more time efficient to have a couple of new songs (5 or so) written before making the band practice them. Then I have them all practice unfamiliar songs. You know when they are done practicing when the band member has a full familiarity bar on any of the new songs. Now you can make them do something else.0 points

Practicing skills is the fastest way to increase rock rating

If you need rock rating stars, just have everyone practice their instruments.0 points

Play all the special venues to boost the number of fansDo

Don't pass up the special venues, even if you know you won't get paid much. For some reason, you can get more new fans than the total number of people who showed up....0 points

Don't buy advertising at the beginning

The cost is not worth it when you're just starting out. You'll be able to sell out venues pretty quickly, anyway.0 points

For extra large venues, buy advertising!

Your profit is directly affected by the number of tickets sold. So, if you happen to play in a super large venue, say 2800 or so, and you know that your band is not able to sell out such a space on their own, buy advertising! It's definitely worth it to sell out these large venues because big or small, you still have to pay the same for gas and stress.0 points

10

Book several gigs together in the same area to save on gas

Not only does it save your transportation costs, you're less likely to miss gigs because your van or bus is too slow.0 points

11

Choose only the highest star rated songs for your concerts

Don't forget you need a power song in your play list for those special venues.0 points

12

Don't give up if your higher offer is rejected by the venue

Sometimes, if you provide the same proposal twice, provided it is not completely crazy high, the venue will accept on the second/third try. The more rejections you get, though, the harder it will be to get accepted without dramatically lowering your percentage.0 points

13

Produce albums as soon as possible

Albums are your best source of passive income. With passive income, you can focus on skills or other activities without being forced to raise stress levels by playing gigs.0 points

14

Have your band members write songs as much as possible

Each album needs a power song and getting power songs is totally by chance. That power song is going to be the choke point when it comes to producing albums. The only thing to do is to keep your band members writing as much as possible to maximize your chances of getting a new power song.0 points

15

If you can afford it, sign the longest contract possible for your band members

Next time, ego is likely to be higher so they'll demand even more.0 points

16

Check unhappiness levels before buying new equipment

The band members might complain and ask for new equipment often, but save the actual purchase for when they are really unhappy. Sometimes, they are just whiny.0 points
