Fight to the Death! Rock Band Faces Guitar Hero!

Rock Band vs. Guitar Hero

I grew up on the aweseomeness that is Guitar Hero. It took what videos games had to offer and said "no, I think there's better out there" and has proven it's point solidly. However, no game will stay king forever. Rock Band has made a solid argument too (especially since the same people made it), and it rocks pretty hard. What do you say?

Now it's official

Now that both are out, this time it's for real. Which is better, in your very own personal opinion. Does Rock Band take the crown? Or does Guitar Hero: World Tour take over the reign of the band game?

Guitar Hero: World Tour and Rock Band 2 Compatability

Is GH:WT and RB 2 compatible?

Heck yes, they are. And not just on one system either. Sony has confirmed that all three new rhythm games (GH, RB and Rock Revolution) will be compatible with each other. Source

Rock Band Rocks...

P.J. says:

Rock Band songs are better but Guitar Hero has a better guitar. Get the Guitar Hero guitar with Rock Band disc (or just get both - what I did since I couldn't decide)

fdsajkl; says:

Rock Band is better so much that Guitar hero copied the drums

Shiduba says:

Rock Band wins by miles. Better songs, DLC, better game modes and a better feel. GHWT sucks.

Zoli says:

It maybe just Nintendo WII but I tryed to use my Rockband2 guitar whit a Guitar Hero World Tour and its not working...

luvmyludwig says:

I like them both, but I like to play the drums on rockband

Hyro123 says:

Wow RB2 is WAY better than stupid GHIII. Well DUH, everyone knows that!

Botnic says:

@RB2 Sucks:
Are you serious? Do you really believe that? Have you been living in a bomb shelter for the past couple years thinking that terrorists got a nuke? Holy crap dude, Rock Band was developed by Harmonix. The SAME COMPANY developed Guitar Hero I and II. You can't say anyone copied anyone, but if you really want to say it, Guitar Hero copied Rock band!

Sergey says:

Okay, I'll try to make as little mistakes as I can here, though English is not my first language :D
As a personal opinion, Rock Band is a fine game, it really innovated over the original Guitar Hero formula. However as the Rock Band came out in Europe half a year later (and on PS3 a year(!!) later almost at the same time as the new Guitar Hero), the fact who innovated first doesn't really matter any more as Harmonix earned a big 'Why the Hell it took so long, f*"*ers' reward. Oh and Rock Band 2 just just came out here in Switzerland, with another 3-month X-Box exclusiveness window which I think it's a real insult to video game players.
Now if we take them both together now, well (personal opinion) the RB2 graphics are way too dark and I actually prefer the silliness of GH which at least makes me laugh once in a while. The character customisation in GH is more impressive and the scenery though absolutely unrealistic is more varied and differs from er... that black scene thing you always end up playing at in RB.
As for the gameplay, the World Tour mode in RB is not THAT better than the Gh simple gig sequence, no need to make such a big deal out of that. The charts are easier to read in GH because of the hammer-ons and despite RB being easier, the note sequences on guitar are way too repetitive to be fun, and the vocals are too easy and seems to adjust themselves to the tune even if you sing it wrong. Granted there's no way to score 100 % on GH singing, but then the RB 100 % doesn't mean much as my dog could probably get that score once. Drums on RB are fine, GH has more pad, but okay, I'll let it slide as RB the first came out a year before and Harmonix slacked and didn't put an extra cymbal on the drums.
Oh, about the instruments, the European customers are again being raped by Harmonix which only let the old version of the instruments on the store shelves. Well they can go to hell, I got a GH bundle, all the instruments are fine and didn't brake yet.
So here you go, that's how these games compare from the European customer point of view.

Karma Police says:

I love how all the Guitar hero people are saying that the instruments are more durable... It's been like a month, people. I very much doubt that the Guitar Hero stuff will last any longer than the original Rock Band instruments did, and besides that, there've already been tons of reports of GH gear crapping out and dying. Whether it was more or less than the RB reports is up to question, but regardless, it means that GH is experiencing the exact same problems.

(I find it interesting that the Rock Band half of comments are grammatically correct and well-written, whereas the GH side looks like a bunch of ten-year olds who just learned how to log on to the Internet.)

Zio says:

Yeesh, some of you guys need to improve your grammar (and language.) You guys should know that Rock Band was the first game to ever bring the band to your home, Guitar Hero is just copying Rock Band IMO. If your going to hate agianst Rock Band, atleast think before you speak, because I see no statements to back up all the harsh (and completely untrue) things you're saying about the game that started the new way of playing guitar games. Rock Band 2 and Master Exploder by Tenacious D FTW!

Guitar Hero Shreds...

Mr. X says:

there both awsome but guitar hero better

Josh says:

Rock band is alright. I must say that the guitar playing at times is more reminiscent of a simon says game than a music sim. I find the note sequence to be to repetitive and shallow to really get into that guitar groove.
guitar hero has the guitar hands down.
By the wat. I see there are snooty rock band fan boys here commenting on grammer and content of running opinion blog. get a life. When someons starts out with. ( I find it interesting that blah blah grammer... blah blah maturity.) Give me a break. Do you really find that interesting. BLowhard!

The Frizz says:

GUITAR HERO IS BETTER!!! ROCKBAND HAS SO MANY BUGS IN IT!!!!!

boredofeducation says:

Guitar Hero is a much better demonstration of pretend talent!

megasquid says:

Guitar Hero hella rocks

Dumbass says:

Let's face it nobody could even play guitar on Rockband if it wasn't for Guitar Hero. The Rockband guitars suck and version 2 of the strat isn't any better than the first one. Even Harmonix toured Rockband2 around using GH Xplorers.

Sergey says:

The bloody dot, didnt' wanna go on GH shreds side, my message is posted in a different column!

rb2 sucks says:

Rock Band Copied Guitar Hero, so obviously, Guitar Hero is better

sykes says:

everyone is retarted, the end!
now we both win! (GH!)

GRYBOP RYBOGP says:

I like the GHWT Guitar a lot better than the Strat. I played a Rock Band demo thinking that I sucked (because I usually do on Rock Band, but not on Guitar Hero). I FC'ed Reptlia's solo using the GHWT Guitar. So I realized that the reason I sucked wasn't Rock Band's engine, it was the guitar. I also like the GHWT drums, but that is probably because mine weren't defective :-). Also, it is much easier to press Select/Back/- on the Guitar Hero guitars.

FULL Rock Band 2 set list and features!

Harmonix Confirmed

The set list has been confirmed. The battle ground has been set and Harmonix has placed the first blow.

Harmonix has also released a full set of features to be included on Rock Band... Guitar Hero fans, beware!

Guitar Hero: World Tour set list so far

Only confirmed songs

Here is the setlist for Guitar Hero: World Tour. Keep in mind that there is supposedly going be 85 songs. Due to the list getting rather long, I'm just going to post the link to this thread on the Guitar Hero forums, which lists all the songs, and this article on IGN.com.

Rock Band 2 vs. Guitar Hero: World Tour

The battle of the features!

So, as you go about trying to decide which game to devote yourself to, a very important factor (easily the second most important behind the setlist) is the features that are promised to be in game.

Rock Band 2 - The features for Rock Band 2 seem to focus on the drums. There will a new Drum Trainer, to teach you the proper way to play all those tricky beats, as well as a Jam Mode that will allow you play over MP3 track downloaded to your console. So, not only will you be able to play the game's songs, but you can even learn to drum over any song that you own.

Guitar Hero: World Tour - By far the biggest excitement with this new edition of the series is the Create a Song feature. This program will allow you to create your own songs from preselected sounds with charts for Guitar, Bass/Rhythm and Drums (no voice). You can even upload these songs to a central server where anyone can download them. There will also be a voting system so that you can only download the best ones.
