BOOK - ROCKET & THE CONSTRUCTION WORKER

Hello. My name is Rocket and I am a Chihuahua and I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the Human Society of Conn. for showing me their love, joy and care while I was with them. I will always be grateful to them.

This is my story...
I don't know how old I was but I was a little puppy. All I remember is that there was alot of yelling and loudness in the house I lived in. I felt like I wanted to die. There was Nick, Billy and the boy's Dad. Billy I felt didn't like me too much since I used to go to the bathroom on the floor. I would be in so much fear, I would wonder if this is life- if this is it, I don't want it! But I had hope.

So one day, Billy asked if I wanted to go out a bit. I got so excited and started to run around the house showing my teeth and wiggling my tail. Not knowing why it can't be like this all the time. Let the day be filled with joy and happiness instead of misery. Billy went to put my leash on just before we went out. His Dad comes home, calls him into his room. Next thing I remember is Billy storming out of the house all upset. There I am standing alone under the bed not knowing why I got to go through this. I must have fell asleep under the bed cause the next thing I remember is birds whistling in the air and a nice cool breeze coming through the window. Nick calls out to me. Hey, Sweeney! Want to go out for a bit?

I got so excited started running around the house showing my teeth wiggling my tail. He noticed I had my leash on and he asked me why I didn't take it off. Like I could really take it off if I can. I mean if I can speak his language I would give him a word or two. He grabs my leash and away we went. As he approaches the car to get something, he lets go of he leash. Me being the curious type of dog that I am. I cut the corner seeing a few dogs across the street having fun.

A voice calls out to me. Hey, Little Fellow over there. Seems like we are having fun. I turned around and it was this big guy, a german shepard. I said with a chuckle, seems like you guys are having a ball. He said, yeah. We are having fun now but we don't live in a home and nobody to love us and we don't know where our next meal is coming from. Thats why we jump around and bark to keep our minds off of it. The Chihuahua says, tell me something. What's your name? I am King and yours? King they call me Sweeney. Tell me something King, if you lived in a house and you didn't know where your next meal is coming from and you live in fear of being beaten with a belt someday or killed. Would you still be happy? Or would you not know what to do with your life and you didn't know where to look for the answers. As I turned around and walked away, I couldn't help to notice the sadness in King's eyes. The story begins.
