Back in the Day, it was Rocket Moms on Squidoo - I was a Member of Session 1
This lensography showcases the lenses I created for each project in the first Rocket Moms six week program. I've also included links to all the Rocket Moms lenses created for that week so you can enjoy the rich variety and great content my fellow Rocket Moms developed in such a short time.
It's official - I'm a member of the first graduating class of Squidoo Rocket Moms. Check out this nifty graduation seal!Rocketmoms is an invite-only gathering of the smartest women on the web, working together to make Squidoo lenses and a whole lot more. Want to be a Rocket Mom? You need only be a mom and a Squidoo lensmaster to qualify. Contact Squidoo Rocket Moms mentor, Bonnie (bdkz) if you're interested in participating in a future session..

What's a Squidoo Rocket Mom?
What's a Rocket Squid?
Rocket Moms - The smartest women on the web
The Rocket Moms are a team of caring, smart, passionate moms of all ages participating in an invite-only lensmaster program at Squidoo. The first group of Rocket Moms - approximately 60 women of all ages and experience levels - signed on to build a minimum of 6 lenses in 6 weeks from provided topics. Coached and guided by Bonnie D (bdkz), these lensmasters ranging from newbies to Giant Squids - moms-to-be, moms and grandmothers - created top-notch lenses using a new branding template.
The first team of Rocket Moms has the privilege of inviting up to 5 new members into the next session to become new Rocket Moms and build a lens a week for 8 weeks. If you'd like to join the Rocket Moms team, get in touch with me, Bonnie or any of the other cool Rocket Moms and request an invitation to the next session - or request more information.

Existing Lenses Converted to the Rocket Moms Template
I selected one of my most popular (and one of my very first) lenses to convert to the Rocket Moms template - Make Your Own Costumes, Masks and Face Paint. For my second conversion lens I chose another one from my family-parenting niche: Pastiche Family Portal-Learning and Play for Parents, Teachers and Kids. My Pastiche Family Portal lens showcases a labor of love - it's all about a family webzine I started as my very first real web site, way back in1998, when I made a leap into a second career. This web site was the first of 3 related sites I designed and created to share family-friendly ideas and crafts. It's still my most popular web site and more popular than ever today with a new generation of moms, dads, teachers and kids.
Week 1 - Build an About Me Lens
Mastering Niche Marketing
Week 2 - Create a Niche Lens
Niche lenses are my Squidoo specialty, so I jumped into this project one right away. I was thinking about peace and it was Cinco de Mayo season, so I created 4 lenses, two each in 2 of my Squidoo niche categories: coloring books and crafts for kids.
Rocket Mom Project #3 - Create a Recipe Lens
This assignment produced what could quickly be turned into a Rocket Moms cookbook - hey, there's another idea for a lensography (or a group is we could still create new groups on Squidoo).

- Thanks for doing this! I have gained a lot from being a Rocket Mom. I only finished 6 lenses, but it is way more than I would have done on my own! You really got a lot accomplished. Congratulations

A Final Word on Rocket Moms Exclusivity
It's by invitation only, and you have to qualify
The Rocket Moms project created recognition for a huge marketing segment that's part of the community on Squidoo. Marketing stats tell us that women and mothers make up a significant portion of the consumer market and work at home population. Futhermore, that the group is growing steadily, especially in the upper age brackets.
The largest segment of the Squidoo community falls into that market segment and they're the biggest traffic source for Squidoo. Translated into general terms it means that the majority of Squidoo members and visitors are women, many of them mothers or grandmothers. Squidoo is about marketing - on many levels - and about building a tribe and generating traffic-building content. And Rocket Moms is a tribe that's at the heart of the Squidoo community.
This doesn't mean men don't contribute brilliantly to Squidoo - because they certainly do. It doesn't mean women who aren't mothers have less value on Squidoo. Actually, quite the contrary. Without other lensmasters and their brilliant lenses and insight Squidoo could become a far less stimulating community. It simply means that the majority of Squidoo lensmasters and visitors are most likely new to the computing and being part of an interactive online experience and the['re jumping into Squidoo wholeheartedly. Why wouldn't staff wish to take advantage of that enthusiasm and potential to create a tribe within the community that's generating traffic, eyeballs and clicks?
Providing an environment for mentoring and encouragement to this rapidly expanding sub-group benefits everyone on Squidoo. It's a win-win for all lensmasters from where I sit. I look at the Rocket Moms team experience as a marketing pilot project. It could become a model for other sub-segment groups within Squidoo much the same as less formalized groups - those of you who build lenses from the various Squidoo-alt branding templates. Without diversity in the community Squidoo might be far less interesting - and have far less traffic overall - than it is for lensmasters and visitors alike.
I'm pleased that I was invited to participate in the first Rocket Moms team - I'm a niche content developer, a Giant Squid lensmaster and yeah, a mom/grandmother. But even if I hadn't been one of the "in group" I'd still find this project exciting and brilliant from the standpoint of a marketing experiment that will have ripples and benefits to all of us who swim in the Squid Sea. I see great potential from this - it can help to grow Squidoo exponentially at a faster rate. That will mean more visibility, credibility in the market place, and more traffic to great lenses.
Isn't that what we all want?
