Sylvestermouse Survives Another Session of RocketMom's Assignments

I have always thrived with challenges and goals. I prefer working with deadlines and specific assignments, therefore RocketMom's is a perfect fit for me, Sylvestermouse

This is my 8th session with RocketMom's and unless they throw me out, I plan to be around for the next 8 sessions. I have learned so much from these fabulous women who are so willing to share their knowledge and advice. I have made friends who I hold dear and very close to my heart.

We have worked together and encouraged one another. We have cried together over our joint and personal losses. We have fussed together when something didn't go just right or when there were outages that cost us valuable time and there have been several evenings when I have gone to bed still laughing over a conversation I had with one of them earlier in the day. Every emotion has been tapped during this session as every challenge has been met, but we have smiled, laughed, cried, fussed, screamed and pulled our hair out together and I wouldn't trade this group of "newly bald" ladies for all of the money in the world.

Bingo!

We started this session with a game of Bingo. In addition to visiting, commenting, joining fanclubs, and basically getting to know each other better, we were required to publish 2 new articles.

This was where the laughing began. One of our new lenses had to be a food lens and I was perplexed until I fixed dinner, a baked potato. Apparently, another RocketMom, tandemonimom, must have had the same dinner because we both submitted lenses about how to bake potatoes. I nearly laughed until I cried! Seriously, who would have thought two of us would write lenses on baking potatoes for the same game? Well, no problem, we "liked" each other, commented on each other's lenses and even featured each other's lens on our own.

For me, that exemplifies the character of a RocketMom. It is not a competition. It is working together to learn, build, encourage and create excellent lenses.

Creating a Cornucopia for Clarence

Clarence is a Cuttlefish! Now, who would have ever thought a Cuttlefish would want a cornucopia? Well, Clarence needed a cornucopia, so like good RocketMom's we got busy trying to give Clarence what he needed. Clarence's cornucopia required a Fall theme. As I tapped my temple trying to think fall when it was 98° outside, I could only think of food. As a result, a whole new niche for Sylvestermouse was born.

At the time of this assignment, I only had 3 chocolate covered fruit lenses. I now have 10 difference Chocolate Covered Fruit lenses, but these were the two lenses created for Clarence.

Again, we laughed a lot over these lenses. Rarely a day went by while I was creating these lenses that someone didn't ask, "What are you going to dip in chocolate today?"

Finding Friends for Rex

Our next assignment was to introduce Rex the Rhodesian Ridgeback to some furry new friends. We were challenged to create a new Squidpaw lens. Paws are something I know a little bit about and I didn't have to go very far to pick the paws I wanted to praise.

Spend a Day with Merlin the Labrador Retriever was written for the Squidpaw Quest for Dog Owners and RocketMom's were given extra credit during this session for participating. That turned out to be a really good thing for me. I had an assignment a few weeks later that I simply could not fulfill, so this one stands in its place.

Shopping with Galatea the Sea Goddess

Most people believe that moms enjoy shopping. Perhaps, most moms do enjoy shopping. I cannot say for sure about most mothers, but I can tell you that this mother hates crowds and shopping in malls. I much prefer shopping online, so Galatea had to sail the shopping seas in cyberspace.

We found many beautiful things online, but these beauties stood out more than the rest.

Halloween is Fun

With Halloween fast approaching, our next assignment was to create a Squidboo lens. I always think of my son on Halloween. It is his favorite holiday and Oct. 31st. was his expected birth due date. He was born 2 days later and to this day it makes him mad that his birthday is not on Halloween. Really, it just means two celebrations in one week. Now that is awesome!

Legos were always one of my son's favorite gifts. I have fabulous memories of him creating masterpieces with Legos. Sometimes, I would even join him at the dining room table and separate pieces into groups for him. To this day, his room is decorated with his finished Lego projects.

This year we gave him The Headless Horseman and the Skeleton Reaper with a Skeleton Horse featured in this article. He quickly put them together, boxed them for safety and carried them back to his dorm room where they, no doubt, are displayed in a place of honor.

Travel and Entertainment Assignment

We love to travel and frankly, it is our favorite form of entertainment! By now, everyone knows I love nature. My husband is a history buff and our children both share our interests. As a family, we can travel to just about any destination and find something at least one of us is going to thoroughly enjoy.

When we visit museums, everyone is enthralled in something spectacular. I never grow tired of seeing the sparkle in my children's eyes when they see a Michelangelo for the first time, see places and things that previously they had only seen in books or walk the historical steps of their ancestors.

We never stop learning!

The "How-to" Assignment

When given a "how-to" assignment, the hardest part for me is figuring out "how-to" choose just one subject.

My mother used to say I always had a project going. When I would finish one, I would start another. I guess that is still true. I don't like being idle and there are definitely times when I wish I could just stop planning and thinking through the next project or idea.

I embrace the philosophy "if at first you don't succeed, try again." Of course, my secret weapon for success is glue :)

For this assignment, I stepped away from my crafting table and moved to the kitchen counter. In the kitchen, my motto is "fast and easy." I simply can't take a lot of time away from Squidoo to work in the kitchen.

Snack Time with Cookies

Train Cookie

We started this session with a food lens and we are ending this session with a food lens. Does that tell you something about RocketMoms? We like to eat! Or, could it be that we like to feed people? Regardless of the answer, it is clear we like to "rock" in the kitchen.

For my assignment, I took an old family recipe and made it into a prettier presentation. Oatmeal Raisin Cookies are not known for being pretty, they are known for being tasty. I decided they could be both.

So, I invite you to once again, join me in my kitchen and let's whip up some adorable snacks for our children. Shhh, we don't have to tell them Oatmeal Raisin Cookies are healthy cookies :)

One More Little Thing

Also during Session 10, a few of the RocketMom's helped me establish my first blog!

A fellow RocketMom and friend, Holley, set up the website and serves as the administrator of the blog site. A few RocketMom's offered excellent advice and several RocketMom's have visited the blog and left comments. I am grateful for the support!

YOU ARE ALL MOST EXCELLENT!!!

THANK YOU!
