The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show
Before all that there was the pilot. Rocky the Flying Squirrel was produced in 1958 and sponsored by General Mills.
The original program was about a television station run by a bunch forest animals. The "cast" included; Rocket J. Squirrel, Canadian Moose (Bullwinkle), Blackstone Crow, Oski Bear, Floral Fauna and Sylvester Fox.
Rocky and Bullwinkle Features
Rocky and Bullwinkle included several cool features. My own favorite was Peabody's Improbable History.Regular features on Rocky and Bullwinkle:
Dudley Do-Right of the Mounties
A Canadian Mountie who is always trying to catch the villainous Snidely Whiplash.
Peabody's Improbable History
A dog named Peabody and his pet boy named Simon explore famous historical people and events using the Way Back Machine.
Fractured Fairy Tales
The old familiar fairy tales, but with a funny twist.
Aesop & Son
Much like Fractured Fairy Tales (even had the same theme music) but based on humorous twists of fables instead of fairy tales.
Bullwinkle's Corner
Here Bullwinkle presented poetry and rhymes designed to add a sense of class and culture to the show. Unfortunately, he always managed to mis-read them to make viewers laugh.
Mr. Know-It-All
This feature had Bullwinkle as Mr. Know-It-All who knows, of course, everything (at least in his own mind).
The World of Commander McBragg
Commander McBragg was full of wild war stories. He had been everywhere and had been involved in nearly every famous event as the hero. Commander McBragg was originally intended for Tennessee Tuxedo and His Tales and was later used in several other cartoon shows including The Underdog Show.
Rocky and Bullwinkle Fan Club
Rocky and Bullwinkle only had three fans in their club; Captain Peter Peachfuzz, and villains Boris and Natasha.
Boris Badenov and Natasha Fatale
Pottsylvanian Spies
Boris Badenov (voice provided by Paul Frees) and Natasha Fatale (voice provided by June Foray) were the main villains on Rocky and Bullwinkle.Boris and Natasha worked together as spies for Fearless Leader who was the ruler of their home country, Pottsylvania. Boris and Natasha were "no goodniks" and very proud of it.
Natasha always seems to be a little smarter than Boris, but whenever she tries to point out a problem or flaw in his schemes he gets upset and usually says "Shuddup you mouth, Natasha."
Interesting Rocky and Bullwinkle Trivia
Did You Know?
Ponsonby Britt, who was listed in the credits as the executive producer was a fictional name. The name Bullwinkle came from Clarence Bullwinkel, a car salesman and friend of Jay Ward.
Rocky and Bullwinkle made small appearances in only one episode of Dudley Do-Right and Fractured Fairy Tales.
Urban legend has it that Rocky and Bullwinkle was banned on Canadian radio and television because of the way that Dudley Do-Right was presented. In truth the show was never banned in Canada.
