    I just discovered your site and I am going to Bookmark it. I guess I started 'collecting' by accident. I have a couple of the Rodney Kent pieces that I picked up at a yard sale. Why turn down something so pretty for only a dollar, right? I have two of the tuilip trays. I pick pieces up when I see them and if they catch my eye, but I don't agressively seek it out. My last three pieces were placed in the dishwasher by my dear hubbie. Now they are dark...tarnished looking. I am going to give that orange spray a shot, but if you have an idea how to bring back the shine, I surely would like to know about it! I can't wait until I have time to learn more about this great 'almost collectible'. The craftsmanship is what first caught my attention.

    Jeff (and others) I would let the internet marketplace be your guide when pricing vintage aluminum. And remember the adage to collect what you love, not what you think will fund your kids education one day. In general, I would think it is better to keep an entire set together especially if they all match. Enjoy your set!

    Hi Barbara;
    It sounds like you have a crumb duster. They were used to collect crumbs from the dinner table and it would still look nice sitting out in front of your dinner company.

    Sometimes you can find the brush that came with them; usually a small, long brush that fits in your hand with no handle. They should have matching hammered finish and perhaps some floral work. The bristles are usually black, possibly made of horse hair. But brushes are rare to see since they get separated from the duster and / or people don't know what they are used for.

    It sound like you have a little gem! It might look nice hanging on a wall in the kitchen or dining room.

    I have Continental Hana Wrought SilverLook #505 piece of my grandmother's. Not sure how it was used or what it is. It has the appearance of a 8" saucepan with hinged lid. The lid has a detailed single flower pattern. The lid opens by pushing on a leaf that rises from the lid. Any ideas as to what it is? It is in beautiful condition.

    I have a Continental Hana Wrought SilverLook #505 piece that was my grandmother's. Not sure what it is or how it was used. It has the appearance of a 8 inch sauce pan with handle and hinged lid. The lid has a detailed single flower pattern and you open the lid by pushed down on a leaf that rises out of the lid. Anybody know what this might have been used for. It is in beautiful condition.

    What you have is a "silent butler". When entertaining company, in the days of smoking, the hostess emptied the ashtrays into the "silent butler.

    I am getting ready to do a yard sale next summer, and save everything! I came across a platter that I fell for that has the 'mum' hammered into it with beautiful leaves on the handles. The # is 735 amd after reading your page, I have come even more attached to it! Thank you for being out there, when I was beginning to think that I DO collect too much fun stuff! Can you give me any info on this piece? Thanks again!

    I can't resist the Rodney Kent Tulip pieces. I've collected many over the past few years. It was so exciting to be on the 127 World's Largest Yard Sale to find a handled casserole with lid, as well as a napkin holder...at bargain prices! Thanks for your tip on cleaning.

    I have a Continental trade mark hand wrought hammered aluminum large platter stamped 1074 and decorated with scalloped edge and detailed leaves with a set of three acorns attached to every other leaf, does any one know the time period and worth?

    I have a Continental hand wrought silverlook 518. It is a round serving plate with acorns and leaves on a turnable pedestal. It also has an open rose on each side which may hold a small candle or just be decorative. How can I find out more about this piece and it's price?

    I have a Hand Wrought Rodney Kent Silver 452, what I think is a candy dish with tulip lid. I have seen all kinds of Rodney Kent pieces but none are marked with 452. Does anyone know anything about this piece?

    O my gosh you sound like me ! My journey began when I decided that I just had to have a set of vintage tumblers. Growing up it seemed that we were the only family on the planet that did not have a set. I got my set , fell in love with aluminum , and here I am. I collect hammered and also polished heavy aluminum. So far I have yet to meet anyone who shares my passion , which is just fine with me .I collect to use and enjoy.Yes , it is a wonderful bonus that it is still cheap. That will change soon enough , but I am determined to have a large collection before then.

    I began collecting aluminum pieces when I saw one at an Auction. I am nuts over it now. I just bought a piece that is Rodney Kent. the number on the back is 419. It is a 2 tier tray with tulips on the bottom and the arms up to the smaller tray are pansys. Can you tell me anything about it?

    I have a beautiful hat band made of aluminum and can't find anything to help me find it's value. It's just the right size to put on a cowboy or cowgirl hat and has a Native American theme or motif. Can you direct me to a website that has such items? Or do you know anything about such an item? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

    I found a coaster set at my end-laws estate sale. Has tag still on it, and on bottom below the name it has 464. Other than this I don't know anything about it, year price anything? Please let me hear from you. Thanks, Susan

    Welcome to the Interior Design, Soft furnishings and Decor Group, this is a very nice lens and is well presented.

    It's interesting that you say hammered aluminum became popular in the 40's and 50's because I learned during my studies that a lot of designers adopted aluminum as a material because of the glut of the material that was available after the 2nd world war, basically all the aircraft that were decommissioned and scrapped gave a ready supply of the material.

    You might be able to get the finish back with something like T Cut which is an extremely fine abrasive cream, typically used to polish a paint finish on a car which has become oxidized. Before you use it on your Dutch oven though, I would try it out on a piece of scrap or maybe on the underside which is out of sight just in case it does not have the desired affect, could possibly make things worse so be cautious.

    I have a hammered aluminum dutch oven that was my Mother's. I put it in the dishwasher and it ruined the finish. Does anyone know what I can clean it with to bring back the original finish. It has a very dull look/finish now.

    Very nice lens - 5 stars! I have a large round hammered aluminum tray of my grandmother's that I use as a wall decoration. I'll have to check and see if it's a Rodney Kent pattern. Does he put any kind of mark on the back to indicate it's his work? Welcome to the Collector Clubs group!

    Hammered aluminum is still an under-appreciated collectible so prices are extremely affordable. Just stock up now before they get popular!

    Thank you so much for putting this site together. I am an avid Goodwill, auction, and bargain hunter and keep running into these beautiful Rodney Kent creations. I bought a beautiful serving tray last year- my first piece. Yesterday, I went shopping and found a chafing set and I immediately knew- it was another Rodney Kent.

    Is there anywhere I can look for pricing? I'm curious how much these two pieces are worth. I'm disappointed to see that on Ebay, they are both less than $10!
