What is Ajax ?

Ajax, or AJAX is an abbreviated form for Asynchronous JavaScript and XML. It is a set of interconnected web development techniques, which are used for creating interactive web applications, as well as various Internet applications. With the help of this technique, web applications are enabled to retrieve data from the server in an asynchronous manner without disturbing the display as well as behavior of the current page. With its increased usage, there has been a rise in interactive animation on the web pages. It has also been instrumental in improving the quality of Web services by way of asynchronous mode. It is also an interesting feature that despite the name, JavaScript as well as XML is not necessarily used; and even the requests are not required to be asynchronous.

Ajax and its features

An interesting feature of Ajax is that quite similar to DHTML and LAMP, it is not at all a technology in itself. It is in fact, a term that is used to refer to a group of technologies. It makes use of HTML and CSS for the purpose of styling information, as well as marking up. DOM along with JavaScript is used for dynamically displaying as well as interacting with the available information. It exchanges data asynchronously in between browser as well as the server, which helps in avoiding page reloads. Many a times, an IFrame object is also used in it.

Scripting the future of web with AJAX

Ajax is used for performing a variety of activities. Today, Ajax scripts are churned out, to perform a number of functions. E.g. one script loads contents from the server and then inserts it in an empty HTML element on your page. Another script is used to display a modal message in the middle of the screen. Until this message is closed, all other controls do not function. Another script is used to enable Ajax to retrieve contents of the tooltip from the external files. Some scripts provide you with Image crop/resize DHTML user interface. Some scripts are also used for sending votes to the server as well as receiving voting results from the server as well.

AJAX

Ajax (shorthand for asynchronous JavaScript and XML) is a group of interrelated web development techniques used on the client-side to create interactive web applications. With Ajax, web applications can retrieve data from the server asynchronously in the background without interfering with the display and behavior of the existing page. The use of Ajax techniques has led to an increase in interactive or dynamic interfaces on web pages

. Data is usually retrieved using the XMLHttpRequest object. Despite the name, the use of JavaScript and XML is not actually required, nor do the requests need to be asynchronous.
