2/ *Movement: Almost all Rolex watches have a Manual movement (not quartz). The genuine Rolex second hand moves remarkably smoothly without obvious jerkiness. (Note: A jerky motion may suggest either a mechanical movement of a lesser status or possibly a quartz movement.) The smooth movement comes from the 5 - 6 ticks per second of a true Rolex. (Because of the smooth mechanism of the sweep hand, you will have difficulty hearing it tick. It should be virtually silent). Opening the back, and looking at the movement itself, is not recommended for the novice, and will require the trained eye and knowledge of the professional dealer to ascertain the correct movement and markings for a particular model, and is somewhat beyond the scope of this guide. If you go to a noted Rolex dealer and present the watch suggesting you may possibly wish to sell it, then he/she may inspect the watch thoroughly and expertly, before giving you an offer. 3/ *Heavier Weight: - It's quite noticeable that authentic Rolex watches are relatively heavy due to quality of materials employed. Whereas most fake watches are usually made from less expensive materials and feel slightly lighter in the hand, but don't be fooled, this is not a foolproof way to assess a Rolex. The best quality replica's are often very close in weight. But only someone with due experience will easily be able to judge, having handled the real thing many times.

4/ *Date Feature: Another key thing to check is the Rolex (date) movement which should always occur accurately around the stroke of midnight. If this is way off, then the watch or mechanism may have doubtful parentage.(?)

This should alert you, unless the watch has substantial age perhaps.

6/ *Paperwork: Such as associated documents like cerificates and guarantees should of course look of significant quality, good print quality on quality paper with no mis-spelled words or bad phrasing, as can happen easily with such things that originate in the far east in particular. Does this document look consistant with a top manufacturer? The same applies to any box.
