Just used this to find out what the Roman Numerals were so I could use them for my writing. Thanks

OMG! how long information putted here!!!
  • lisadh Jun 2, 2011 @ 2:20 pm | delete
Evelyn, you amaze me. I can't believe all the information and images you've come up with for this lens. I particularly enjoyed the matchstick photo puzzle. Took me a minute to figure it out. I always thought Roman numerals were kind of dull and pointless except for deciphering the year a movie was released, but I have newfound respect for these ancient symbols. Great job!

    Great idea for a lens.

What a great lens! And boy do my middle schoolers need this. Neither one of them has a clue how to read Roman numerals. Forwarding to both of them, and we will be using some of your fun ideas for some Roman numeral lessons around the house.... :-)

  • OhMe Jan 2, 2010 @ 7:18 pm | delete
I have always enjoyed using Roman Numerals. I just think they are pretty and so is this lens.

Roman Numerals are pretty. I'm so glad you enjoyed this presentation.
  • eclecticeducation Jan 1, 2010 @ 7:40 pm | delete
I can do Roman numerals up to about 20, then I start messing up! Great lens!
  • Evelyn_Saenz Jan 6, 2010 @ 8:15 pm | delete
It's fun when you start to recognize the numerals above 20. All it takes is a little practice.
  • TheGreenerMe Dec 22, 2009 @ 12:42 pm | delete
Roman numerals definitely look more distinguished than traditional numerals. I suppose that's why they use them in movies still at the credit roll? This is very helpful and interesting!
  • Evelyn_Saenz Jan 6, 2010 @ 8:14 pm | delete
I've always loved trying to decipher the roman numerals in movie credits before they scroll down below sight.
  • EverythingMouse Nov 19, 2009 @ 1:31 pm | delete
Excellent as always. Squid Angel Blessings to you

I love Roman Numerals. This is a great resource for kids too. I know where I am going to go when my daughter starts working on her Roman Numerals. 5*****

Ah, this is going to come in HANDY. Forget the kids, I need to study this myself!

I always found Roman Numerals to be fun. My sister and I made up games to quiz eachother with higher and higher numbers. My mom always loved to try to read the Roman Numerals at the end of movies fast enough to know when they were made. That was before VCR's so you had to get it quickly.
  • ElizabethJeanAllen May 4, 2009 @ 4:38 pm | delete
Even my tenth graders have trouble with Roman Numerals. They know them up to ten and that's it.
    Great lens

I've favorited this as one thing Jasmine has gotten into lately with math is Roman Numerals
  • papawu Apr 14, 2009 @ 1:28 am | delete
Fantastic stuff! I like the stylishness of roman numerals, but my memory of them has dimished somewhat over the years. I'm okay up to a thousand and then I tend to get amnesia.lol.
  • kiwisoutback Apr 7, 2009 @ 10:13 am | delete
Roman numerals are fun -- I like seeing when they mess them up at the end of old movie and TV show credits. I've seen it a couple of times. Great work!

I love Roman numerals since school. Great presentation Evelyn!

Another fine lens! I love the look of Roman numerals, but sadly they no longer seem the fashion. V stars to you ;)

I love roman numerals - always have - they are just prettier, I think. Re the IV vs the IIII on clocks - there are several theories - one has to do with making the clock more symetrical. A fun search on google. Lots of opinions on that one! I did notice that Big Ben uses the IV.
  • Jimmie Mar 26, 2009 @ 9:06 pm | delete
Roman numerals are important to understand. I added a small chart of them to my daughter's mini office.

Thanks for adding this to the Learning and Teaching Math group. It's a great addition and is already featured there!

I love Roman numerals, they look so classy. I always know what they mean and have no problem with them. Why don't you do a lens on the numeral "0".
  • susannaduffy Mar 25, 2009 @ 7:29 am | delete
What always bemuses me is 4 o' clock. Why not IV? Who knows ... a little mystery from clockmakers
  • Lizblueberry Mar 24, 2009 @ 9:52 pm | delete
Interesting lens! Does anyone even recognize them anymore?
