Romantic Movies That Don't Suck!

Ranked #3,371 in Entertainment, #41,891 overall

Sometimes I have issues with romance movies...

I hate romantic movies that suck! Too often, romance movies are just sort of annoying and cloying, or at least that's how I tend to feel about most of the "chick-flicks."  I've been told that as a girl, I think too much, but I think it's everyone else who isn't thinking enough!

Here are MY suggestions for some romantic movies that don't suck!

Romances That Don't Suck

Quirky, star-crossed, passionate... these romances AREN'T your usual saccharine or sappy interactions. They are complex, confused, awkward and full of emotion that's not just a big version of "I REALLY like you!" I have a lot of trouble with many "chick flicks," finding them intolerably unintelligent most of the time. I found all of these to be both smart and romantic without making me annoyed.

Please share with me what your faves are and vote for which you think are the best!

Great list and good idea! I loved Eternal Sunshine. Another couple great, genuinely romantic flicks like this: Music and Lyrics, Once, The Princess and the Warrior.

I'm down for romance movies from time to time. And yes, I'm a man. Lost in Translation was definitely a quirky one. I liked it. On top of your main list is Amélie, which was highly enjoyable.

I will follow your advice because I have the exact same problem as you. I always think romantic movies sucks and the other girls think I'm insensitive or something - but don't get me wrong, I love romance, I just like it intelligent. Also, the only one I've watched from your list is Brokeback Mountain, which is my favorite movie of all time, so that's a good sign.

I absolutely despise movies that aim at making me cry. Frequently they fall in the "romantic" classification, which makes it even harder to find good ones. Someday, watch "The Scarlet Pimpernel" with Leslie Howard and Merle Oberon, and the last 2-3 lines. That's romantic.
