Romanian Heritage From Middle Age
Romania was accepted in United Nations Education, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1990 and I am proud to say that Romania has 31 sites with this organization.
In my lensography I talk about my family, me, coming in USA, and our life in USA. This lens is like a second lensography in which I focus only on the beauty of the country I was born in.
In the first map you can see the placement of Romania in Europe.
My native country geographically has a special place between 3 big groups: Central Europe, Eastern Europe, and the Balkans.
But you cannot put Romania in any of these 3 big groups because the country was formed by a mixed of Roman and Dacian elements with light Slavic and many others influences.

In late Antiquity Dacia territory was colonized by Roman Empire.
In early Middle Age after Roman Empire left Dacia, the territory was invaded by nomad groups: Goths, Huns, Gepids, Avars, Bulgars and they settled in nearby in Hungary, Bulgaria, Serbia. That was a period which trigger some light Slavic influences.
In Middle Age the influences was from medieval Greeks and Byzantine Empires, followed by the Ottoman Empire.
The name of "Romania" was coming from a derivative of the Latin "Romanus" and Romanian Language is a derivative from the Latin Language, same roots as French, Spanish, Italian languages.
Romania was formed by a merge of Moldavia and Vallachia as a nation-state in 1859. Transylvania was on and off between Romania and Kingdom of Hungary. Transylvania, Bucovina and Bessarabia was added to Romania in 1918.
Modern Romania has 250 years strong influences from Western Cultures, and Christian Orthodox Church.
Note: I decide to show you some geographical facts and small fragments of personal events as I consider this lens being the continuation of my lensography. The history facts are necessary to position of Romania within Europe.
Romanian Geography
The oppressive Communism regime made me leave my native country, not the country itself.
I was born a free spirit, and I want to keep it as long as I live!
I am also proud that I am an American, I love the liberty, the opportunities and the beautiful people of this country.

- the capital city Bucharest, the town in which I was born
- Constanta, port on Black Sea, the town my husband was born
- Galati my maternal grand parents town, I spend with them 4 years in my childhood when the atrocities of the Communism regime struck my family. I have the best memories of those happy years with their love, devotion, and care

A lot of good values on my life I inherited from my grandfather. You can see him in my lensography.
Romania has the following neighbors:
- Ukraine to the North
- Bulgaria to the South
- Republic of Moldova and Black Sea to the East
- Serbia and Hungary to the West
In Middle Age, I already mention the invasion of numerous nomad groups. Because of them, people built solid fortresses which hided especially kids and elderly, food and water until the end of invasion.A part of them are UNESCO protected as World Heritage Sites.
The Middle Age Architecture,
Romania, Hunedoara - The Hunyad Castle - (called Corvinesti Castle as well)
Believed to be the place where Vlad III of Wallachia (known as Dracula) was held prisoner for 7 years after he was deposed in 1462.
The Castle was built in Gothic style, but after many restorations has Baroque and Renaissance architectural influences as well. The Hunyad Castle is a large and imposing building with tall towers, myriad windows, and balconies adorned with stone carvings.
It worked beautifully as a strategically enforced point.

Please notice the early Gothic elements in the Room of Knights

National monument and landmark in Romania, in vicinity of Brasov - The Bran Castle -
It is a fortress situated on the border between Transylvania and Wallachia, commonly known as "Dracula's Castle", I don't know why because Vlad Tepes, never resided in this place.
The castle is now a museum open to tourists, displaying art and furniture collected by Queen Marie.

The castle became a customs post on the mountain pass between Transylvania and Wallachia, but occasionally was used in defense against the Ottoman Empire,
From 1920 the castle became a royal residence within the Kingdom of Romania. It was the principal home of Queen Marie, and is decorated largely with artifacts from her time, including traditional furniture and tapestries that she collected to highlight Romanian crafts and skills.
Romania, Sibiu - Biertan Fortress -
It is one of the most important Saxon villages with fortified churches in Transylvania, having been on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 1993.

A Tomb Stone within the Church.

The front (the alter), the back (the organ) of the church.

The Gothic elements are so beautiful.
Romania, Brasov - Rupea Castle
Unfortunately it is just a ruin.

Romania, Fortify village - Viscri -
The village of Viscri is best known for its highly fortified church, originally built around 1100.
It is also a fortified church in Transylvania, designated in 1993 as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

It is a small size forteass buy a typical example of a survival village

The Church is small as you can see the alter and organ are on the same front wall.
Video Hunyard Castle
It is also called Corvinesti Castle
Video Hunyard Castle - (called Corvinesti Castle as well)
Enjoy the Middle Age Castle and the folk Romanian music, it is a beautiful dance music.

- I admire your will and quest to be a free spirit and I well remember the communist destruction of your beautiful country. The person who destroyed mine was big pals with the person who ruined yours. Unfortunately mine is still alive and going strong. When will people ever learn.
