Add a Special Touch to Valentine's Day Cards

Of all the ways to say "I love you" on February 14, a Valentine's Day card is the most traditional. Everyone loves to receive mail on Valentine's Day, but here's a way to make your holiday cards stand out. Have your Valentine's Day cards posted in a city with a romantic name. In the United States there are dozens of towns with names that are appropriate for Valentine's Day, such as Valentine, Nebraska or Loveland, Colorado.

The United States Postal Service maintains a list of romance-themed towns that participate in the Valentine's Day postmark program. Why send heartfelt sentiments from Anytown, USA when you can arrange to have your Valentine's Day cards posted in Romeo, Michigan or Romance, Arizona?

Here's how to get a love-themed postmark on your Valentine's Day cards. Once you've chosen a town, place your addressed and stamped Valentine's Day cards in a larger envelope and mail to the postmaster in this format:

To assure delivery by February 14, cards should be received by the post office no later than February 9. For best results, allow at least a week for your cards to be processed. Last year, senior citizen volunteers in Loveland, Colorado stamped 200,000 cards and letters from over 100 countries and all of the 50 states. This year they began stamping Valentines on February 1 at the Loveland Chamber of Commerce.

What a great idea. I didn't know about Valentine re-mailing opportunities. I don't live too far from Romeo, Colorado. And, Loveland, CO is certainly another great option for me. I have to admit that I thought of some of the places that might work for a love gone wrong. LOL. Perhaps that is your next lens possibility... postmarks for a love that missed the mark. Plenty of good town names for the un-Valentine. :-) But for now, a loving postmark will do.
