Parting is such sweet sorrow.. why we love a good romantic tragedy
Love found. Love lost. Love regained, only to be lost again.
These are the true markings of a romantic tragedy. If you are anything like I am, then you relish in the pain, the heartache, and the finality of a good romantic tragedy. Good romantic tragedy? Oxymoron yes, we are in true Shakespearean form this evening.
Most people like to watch love stories, where boy meets girl, girl falls in love with boy, they have some obstacles, but they eventually stay together, living a long fulfilling life. While I'm a born romantic and do occasionally like to watch a happy ending. My heart pumps for those tragedies. The forbidden love, the love that could have been, the love that was lost, and the love that was scorned. True passion burns from stories like these, because there is no end... that love now is eternal, pure, without any chance of becoming tainted.
Why is parting sweet sorrow? Because, the moment of the departure, the last goodbye is when your heart beats the loudest.

Let's begin shall we...( I got you covered)
The Sisters
Destiny & Fate:.

When two lovers are meant be together, it is because it was designed by Destiny. Such a pure and beautiful art love is. Admired and sought after by all. Destiny is the artist behind such a marvel. However, Destiny is always tormented by her jealous sister, Fate.
You see Fate has brought together great loves too, but not like Destiny. Destiny's work is careful and meticulous; Fate arranges things in an accidental and inartistic manner.Because Fate is so overshadowed by her sister, she wants -in her own rights- a part of this great masterpiece that her sister has put together, and what Destiny joins together only Fate can tear apart. Fate is what tears a great love apart, out of spite, and jealousy. Now the love that Destiny created is overshadowed by a darker, final Fate.

The Lady Of Shallot
She never found love.
The Lady Of Shallot

The Legend Of Lady Elaine and Sir Lancelot
What is more tragic that having love and losing it? Never having love at all. Lord Alfred Tennyson's tale of an impossible love is my next tragedy.
Lady Elaine loved Lancelot; he could not return her love, for he loved the fair Guinevere. Was the depiction of the Lady of Shallot a metaphor to Lady Elaine's death of a broken heart?
In the tale, the Lady of Shallot lives in a island castle where she is in threat of being cursed , dooming her to never directly look out her window, she can only see the on goings through a mirror. So daily she sits in her tower weaving by day and night, in shadows she hears the rustle of Camelot, funerals, music, and the wooing of two lovers....."I'm half sick of shadows..." as she continues her lonely dismay. One fateful day, she sees Sir Lancelot passing by "His coal-black curls as on he rode, As he rode down to Camelot. From the bank and from the river
His countenance flashed into her mirror's reflection. Upon seeing Sir Lancelot, The Lady cannot help but peer out her window, enamored by the knight. Suddenly her mirror cracks, and the curse has fallen upon her. Mournfully The Lady leaves her tower, and finds a canoe, put's her name on it, and floats away down to the riverbanks.. as she sings a death-song. She eventually dies; her body and blood frozen. Found by the locals, they are saddened to find their tower mistress/legend. Sir Lancelot finds her and says "She has a lovely face;
God in his mercy lend her grace, The Lady of Shallot."
In Thomas Malory's Morte d'Arthur, there is a sonnet named "Elaine the Fair Maid of Astolat", which explains the love Elaine had for Lancelot, and how his rejection caused her to commit suicide, she was found in a boat, on the River Thames with a note of doom in her hands.
What was the Lady's Curse?
The tale never really defines the curse. When the Lady saw Lancelot, she was love ridden and could not live without him. Some believe that her curse was living a life without love. Other people think that she was fatally cursed and that is why she commit suicide. There are even those who don't believe there ever was a curse, stating that the fear of the curse was what held her prisoner.
Oh, but to love, and not be loved. Clearly this was the Lady's Curse, she could not love another. "Do you believe in life after love?"- Cher

Movie: 1992 Bram Stoker's Dracula

Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula.
Mina and Count Dracula
Vampire love is all the rage now. But before Twilight, Edward Cullen and Bella swan, there was Dracula and Mina. A story of true of love and damnation should have a tragic ending! My final featured tale of tragic love is that of Dracula, as per Francis Ford Coppola's adaptation in 1992's Dracula, Love Never Dies. If you are familiar with the book, it isn't so much a tale of love and passion as it is a hunt for a monster. Francis Ford Coppola managed to turn this tale into one of the most romantically tragic movies I've ever seen.
Is it true that people, who were meant to be together, will always be destined to join throughout time? Is there a love so strong that one would sacrifice love and life for the others salvation?
The love story behind this movie starts in tragedy. Vlad Dracula is a mighty warrior, fighting in Istanbul where he has had much success defeating the Turks. In revenge, the Turks send a message to Vlad's beloved wife, Elisabeta. They falsely inform her that Dracula has been killed. In a fit of sorrow, Elisabeta plunges into the river. Later, the victorious Count returns and learns that his beloved has commit suicide. He condemns the church and God. What kind of reward is this? He slew in the name of God, and has come home to find his very love slain. This is how he is rewarded? His condemnation of the church concludes in a curse of sorts. He swears on blood, it being life, he will forever hunt it in order for him to sustain life... he will avenge his wife's death, with powers of darkness...
Later, in what appears to be the Victorian Age, Jonathan Harker is called to Transylvania to assist a client on purchasing property in England. Needless to say this client is The Count himself. The Count, now old and rather ancient looking, happens to come across a picture of Mr. Harker's fiancé, whom he left behind to complete the transaction. Love ridden, The Count realizes that Mina Murray is his beloved Elisabeta reincarnate. Filled with passion and hunger, The Count arranges to move to England as soon as possible. He leaves Jonathan Harker there, entrapping him, so that he would not pose as an obstacle.
Once in England, The Count transforms into a young dashing version of himself. He quickly finds Mina, and seduces her. Mina feels as though she knows the Count (she believes him to be a prince) and quickly falls in love with him. Mina has a sixth sense when it comes to her Prince, and she is empathetic to the tragedy of his lost love, Elisabeta. She recalls the events as though she were there; in tears she turns to the Prince, knowing now that they have a bond stronger than she had realized, and kisses him vehemently. The lost lovers have been reunited.

Mr. Harker finally leaves Castle Dracula and is able to find sanctuary. He sends for his fiancé as soon as possible. Mina feels (out of pity really) that she needs to be by her fiancé's side. They get married, and Mina weeps for her Prince. While Van Helsing and Harker try to hunt down Dracula, the Count comes to Mina in a mist of smoke She is glad to see him yet she is torn apart, and does not understand who he is. The Count admits to being the monster that is being hunted, and Mina angrily responds by hitting him... for he is the one who killed her dear friend, Lucy. This anger quickly turns into passion, and they make passionate, fiery love of the vampire kind. Mina begs the Count to make her like him. He states that he loves her too much to condemn her, he could never allow her to have that fate.. however, she persists and finally, he shares his cursed blood with her. This is a very hot scene in the movie, and no actual sexual intercourse takes place!
While the hunt continues, Mina is compelled to protect her prince, and she takes him into the very church where he denied God,. There, the Dark Prince pleads for her to kill him, for her soul and his will be forever damned if she doesn't. She gives him a final kiss, plunges a sword into his heart, and decapitates him, setting them both free from eternal condemnation
This was the ultimate sacrifice. They put their love on the alter of sacrifice In order to redeem their souls. Could you endure so much passion and then destroy it?

Other Note Worthy Tragedies:
Movie: Last of the Mohicans:

I used to love this movie, not for the obvious romance that it was based about, but the one in the background. For some reason I felt very enamored by the quiet admiration Uncas & Alice had for each other.Uncas is the young (and handsome) son of Chingachgook an American Native from the Mohican tribe. Throughout the film this strong silent character follows his father, and adopted brother through battles and rescues. Along the way, they rescue an English colonel with two women, who are to travel to Fort William Henry. Alice is the young sister of Cora, daughters of an English general.
If you have seen this movie, you need to follow more than just the main plot of the movie. Next time you see this movie, pay attention to the mannerisms of Uncas, how Alice reacts to him, afraid, yet drawn to him. Notice how Uncas' father speaks of having grandchildren. Uncas having children means the survival of the Mohicans. Funny as it may be, the title " Last of the Mohicans " has more to do with Uncas' future than with Daniel Day Lewis.Being the romantic that I am, I closely followed Uncas and Alice, making my own conclusions. Pretending that the actors made certain gestures to give this silent romance a small voice.. of course this romance does end in tragedy...
Titanic Jack & Rose
You didn't think I would forget to mention the Titanic did you? " I'll never let go Jack".. such a brief love, It ended so quickly. it was a passionate and heartbreaking romance. He sacrificed his body to ensure her survival, how sad to have to live the rest of your life, such as this. To have met your true love and lose him so quickly.
Hans Christian Anderson's The Litte Mermaid

Disney got it all wrong!! They forgot to mention how the Little Mermaid's Prince Charming was in love with another woman. Unable to find his lady love, the prince tells the Little Mermaid he will marry her instead (2nd best?!). Drastically, the Prince does find the woman of his dreams and marries her. The Little Mermaid is left alone. One day, her sisters convince the sea witch to overturn the spell; so she could come home. They sacrifice their hair in exchange for a dagger. The sea witch instructs that The Little Mermaid must kill the Prince and his new bride, and only then she can return with her family. She cannot. Instead, she plunges the knife into her heart as she jumps into the ocean. She forever become sea foam due to the fact that me people do not have an afterlife...
My Best Friend's Wedding

Romantic tragedies don't always end in death. Take My Best Friend's Wedding for example. This modern "romantic comedy" is about a food critic that learns that her best friend is getting married. At one point in their past, they too had a love affair; however, Julianne (Julia Roberts) breaks up with him for untold reasons. Now, she wants him back and is determined to break up the wedding and proclaim her love for Michael. In a sequence of quirky events, she manages to break them up, eventually. But the bride to be, Kimberly Wallace (Cameron Diaz), is a very likable character, and is also determined to marry the love of her life. In conclusion, Julianne has to surrender to the fact that her best friend was never hers, and has to give him away at his wedding. Her white flag is giving the newlyweds a song she and Michael shared when they were together, due to the fact that Michael and his new bride didn't have "a song".
