Love Grows Stronger

romantic love Love only grows stronger over the years. All this time, I've thought this statement is probably true. Now, though, I firmly believe in it. Whenever I think of Romantic True Love, I think of only one thing...my Grand Father and my Grand Mother...

The change came about in a hospital room where my Grand Mother laid in a semi-conscious state for nearly three days post a major surgery, and my Grand Father, who was approaching 79, did not leave her bedside even for a single moment.

He spent nights at her bedside, sitting in a chair because he was worried "that she may by chance pull out the drip" or "she might need a sip of water". I understood that he merely wanted to be with her, in every minute of her pain.

I felt he was in pain as someone he loved was in pain. Reflecting on the activities, my Grand Father never left the hospital room during the ten days that my Grand Mother was admitted in the hospital. And as regards my Grand Mother, she never called out to us, even in the semi-conscious state for any need of hers. She only wanted "him".

Soon my Grand Mother was discharged and back home and my Grand Father's concern for her improved. He used to keep a keen watch on her food, making sure that all the essential items were there in her every meal. He assisted her with exercises, which doctor advised her to do and started spending most of his time with my Grand Mother.

But what's embossed in my mind is the day when my Grand Father had to go to town for some official work. My Grand Mother lay on her bed and cried desperately. I was trying to calm her, but was unsuccessful. Then when my Grand Father entered the room and I decided to leave them alone. After a few minutes, I saw them coming from the room holding hands. They gradually walked towards the main door, with my Grand Father offering support to my Grand Mother just like any young man would to his beloved. At the main door their hands parted, although hesitantly. Their eyes met and a tear trickled from my Grand Father's eyes.

Her eyes were appealing, her smile inviting. He could not refuse to accept. He could feel love and romance sneaking into life, but right now he couldn't think about it. She was hugging him and he couldn't straight anymore.

There are times when love needs you to stick, and times when love needs you to free.

She hung up with her known, "Bye".

My eyes were wet, but I was happy. It prompted me of something beautiful I'd had and I believe I still treasure. I realized that love is beyond all the pain and hurt; it doesn't have a past or a future but yes it's the most beautiful gift, you can have. This was a true romantic love I ever saw.

So, if someone ask me now, if I believed love grows stronger with time, I would without hesitation - say yes
