Romeo Void Video Showcase

Ranked #13,045 in Music, #358,114 overall | Donates to Squidoo Charity Fund, Alive Arts Media // Alive Magazine

One of my favorite post-punk bands.

Active from 1979 through 1985 (plus a couple of brief reunions), and based in San Francisco, Romeo Void was one of the most distinctive bands of the post-punk ("New Wave") era. Singer/lyricist Debora Iyall had one of Those Voices, powerful & unmistakable. The band was amazing live (the one time I got to see them, they opened for Echo & the Bunnymen, and absolutely stole the show). Though never as popular as the Talking Heads (and quite different musically), they were similar in being a "thinking man's dance band."

This lens showcases the videos that are available.

There's an extensive biography of the band at allmusic.

The lens photo is from their web site at www.romeovoid.net

There's also a MySpace Music page for them here

Never Say Never

This version of the song leaves out an amazing sax solo, but it's the only one available in video.

Girl in Trouble (It's a Temporary Thing)

This one actually cracked the Top 40. There's an Extended Version, but the video channel is static.

Chinatown

The video channel is static (just a band picture), but it's a great song and this is the only video I've found.

VH1 Bands Reunited

In 2004, the VH1 show "Bands Reunited" brought Romeo Void back together for a one-night performance.

The next five videos (four at 10 minutes each, and a 2 1/2 minute finale), are that show. It's more about the reunion process, and some reminiscing, than about the music, but it's worth watching anyway.
