Ron Paul Remnant - His Support Base

The Remnant is the term that Ron Paul uses to describe his large support movement. This article discusses the meaning of The Remnant and other terms used to refer to the Ron Paul supporters.

The Remnant

A basic meaning of the term Remnant:

A surviving trace or vestige: a remnant of past glory. A small surviving group of people.

In the case of Ron Paul, I believe he is refering to a group of people who have held onto the idea of liberty, of freedom and of self-responsibility.

He has announced several times that he is delighted that the remnant is much larger than he had imagined. Perhaps a vestige of liberty has remained in us all, and Ron Paul, at this confluence of time has managed to catalyze its re-growth.

As George Washington once remarked "Liberty, when it begins to take root, is a plant of rapid growth".

I believe Ron Paul has been influence on the term remnant by Albert J Nock, who argued in his 1936 article "Isaiah's Job", that libertarians should focus on nurturing what he called "the Remnant". The Remnant, according to Nock, consisted of a small minority who understood the nature of the state and society, and who would become influential only after the current dangerous course had become thoroughly and obviously untenable, a situation which might not occur until far into the future.

Derogatory Names Directed at us:
Paulheads by Fox News
Paultards, MoRons and Paulbots by some internet groups. Though the term Paulbot have been warmly accepted by many as a reference to the jokes that our campaign was run by a couple of people in a basement with spamming software.

Even the term Paultards is used jokingly by some supporters as it capyures some of the obsessive passion and geekiness of some supporters.
