Looking for a comfortable hammock? Rope hammocks are comfy & durable!
When we think of the hammock material generally what comes to mind is the cotton rope hammock. Rope hammocks have the traditional hammock design look and are mostly made of cotton rope. Cotton rope hammocks offer the most comfort of rope hammocks available and will not irritate your skin like some synthetic rope hammocks. Cotton rope hammocks are durable and require very little maintenance. Rope hammocks usually cost less for the comfort they offer. Cotton rope hammocks feature great ventilation so it is easy to stay cool even on hot and humid summer days. Cotton rope hammocks are lightweight which makes them perfect for travel or carrying in the backpack. Cotton rope hammocks with a fine weave and small knots are usually more comfortable than rope hammocks with larger holes and large knots that can dig into your back.
Cotton fabric hammocks feature comfort, durability and colorful designs. Fabric hammocks made of cotton offer the most comfort of any fabric type. Cotton will allow air flow around the user's body better than synthetic materials, although cotton rope hammocks are best for ventilation.

Hammocks Where Did They Come From?
The hammock is a fabric sling used for sleeping or resting while suspended above ground. It normally consists of one or more cloth panels, or a woven network of twine or thin rope stretched with ropes between two firm points such as trees or posts. Hammocks were developed by native inhabitants of tropical regions for sleeping. Later, they were used aboard ships by sailors to maximize available space, and by explorers or soldiers traveling in jungle regions. Today they are popular around the world for relaxation; they are also used as a lightweight bed on camping trips.
Hammock Styles
The various hammock styles include spreader-bar type cotton hammocks, Mayan, Brazilian, Nicaraguan, and portable / camping hammocks. Each style of hammock has its pros and cons. Hammocks come in numerous patterns, an array of colors, and sizes ranging from a single person (250 - 350 lbs) to two or three person (400 lbs - 600lbs). Generally hammock dimensions are 11' to 14' across and 6' to 11' wide. The spreader bars in most hammocks feature wooden or metal bars at the foot and head of the hammock, spreading its width and this allows for easy access and in some cases offers a "no tip" feature that can be a real help.
The Mayan, Brazilian and Nicaraguan style hammocks have common form, but differ by their material and construction. The Mayan and Nicaraguan hammocks are crafted from cotton or nylon string that is woven to form a supportive net. Cotton hammocks have a looser weave than Nicaraguan hammocks, and the support of the hammock "bed" is determined by the number of strings and quality of the weave used in the construction process.
Brazilian hammocks are hand crafted by skilled artisans from comfortable cotton materials and usually have more longevity than the string varieties. While Mayan and Nicaraguan hammocks are often considered to be more comfortable, Brazilian hammock's comfort is less dependent on its construction and therefore less likely to vary as highly from manufacturer to manufacture.
Nylon hammocks or parachute hammocks are a favorite among Leave No Trace and Ultra Light camping fans and hikers because of their reduced impact on the environment and because they are light weight and lack of bulk compared to tents. They are made of durable nylon fabric and may include a mosquito net and storage pockets. Special ropes or cords are used to loop around trees in order to create attach points for the hammock without damaging the trees.

- How would you like to take a vacation once a week? Unfortunately for most of us it is out of the question, not necessarily because of the lack of money, but because of all the time commitments we bound to in our day to day lifestyle. There are 10,000 minutes in the week so it is surely within our power to reserve a few of those precious moments for ourselves, curled up or reclined with a good book on a relaxing cotton hammock swinging away the tension, just close your eyes and you can smell the sea breeze.
So maybe you are thinking not a bad idea but where am I going to find a tree to hang a hammock in my yard there are none! Lucky for you and other backyards or patios that face the same problem there are several different types of hammock stands available. Depending on the style of hammock there are wooden or steel hammock stands, some are set at fixed lengths for certain types of hammocks or adjustable stands that can accommodate almost any hammock you choose.
The next order of business would be considering the length and color of your new resting spot. All hammocks will of course accommodate a single individual; however there are several choices that will allow for two people to enjoy.
If you think about it, soft cotton is often the fabric that you think of when you think about comfort. It should not be a surprise that it is the material of choice for cotton hammocks. Cotton is airy, soft to the touch, and gentle against the skin.
When you are making a decision about hammocks, the choices are obvious, comfort and durability. You want that will support your body weight, as well as holding up to the normal wear and tear of daily use. A cotton hammock is the answer to this, and much more. In addition to the tensile strength of the material itself and it's weaved construction it will be obvious from the start that it is something you will have and enjoy for a long time.
Placement of your hammock can complement your existing décor and be an eye-catching addition to the surroundings, whether you locate it in your yard or on a patio. This is because most cotton hammocks are constructed from bright, vibrant colors.
You can create a tropical paradise in your backyard with a cotton hammock. When you have a hammock, you can make the most of your warm summer months and as winter approaches you can move your hammock inside with the use of hammock stands. Swaying in a hammock is excellent way to relax, unwind, and savor every moment of your leisure time.
Brazilian Cotton Hammocks
The Brazilian hammock was developed by Brazil's Tapeba Indians, and their constructions reflect their daily needs. The tightness of the cotton weave gives the Brazilian hammock a canvas-like feel and it is believed the comfort this adds is un-paralleled, as, since being made of cotton, these hammocks are very soft to the touch. Amazonas hammocks are individually handcrafted using carefully chosen raw cotton in the Brazilian tradition. Hammock Chairs
- Hammock Chairs
- Think about it, everyday we sit, whether in front of the TV or reading our favorite novel. There are 1440 minutes in the day, how many of those precious minutes do you spend sitting? Why not opt for a change and leisurely suspend yourself in a hammock chair? You can still accomplish the same things as before, but actually in more comfort.
Hammock Swings
In the comfort of a hammock chair your back stays straight and you can sit for hours in your hammock chair. Sleep, relax, read, meditate, count clouds or stars, you will only be a few steps away to the ultimate mini vacation every day! Portable Hammocks
- Portable Hammocks
- Portable hammock like the parachute type is ideal for camping or a backpacking trip. These hammocks are lightweight and collapse into a manageable size that will easily store in a backpack or other camping gear.
Camping Hammocks
Campers who use hammocks instead of a tent make the argument that the hammock does not leave a camping footprint the way a tent may (of course that depends where the tent is set up). If the hammock is hung tree to tree properly using a web strap it will not damage the bark and will leave no marks on the branches. After a tent has been pitched the outcome in most cases is obvious because of the damage to the landscape, grasses or other natural terrain. So those camping enthusiasts that are in favor of the Leave No Trace camping will certainly like the idea of hammock camping. Not to mention the comfort factor and the open possibilities of camping sites because of rocks and slope not to mention most insects. Some attention may be needed to overcome one drawback and that is the cold. However with some creativity this may not be a big deal. One idea is to open one end of a sleeping bag so the hammock can slid through and be zipped close to provide the necessary warmth and comfort. Another advantage of camping hammocks is the fact that they are very portable and lightweight making them easy to transport long distances. So if you are thinking green the next time you plan a camping trip think hammocks! Parachute Hammocks
These parachute hammocks are made of extremely strong and durable parachute nylon; their size is nearly as large as a queen-size bed but weighs in at only about 11 ounces and fits into a bag measuring 8 by 4 inches. Perfect for the hiking trip or when packing space is limited. Hammock Stands

Some Tips For Choosing A Comfortable Hammock
If you think that choosing a hammock is easy, it is. All you need to do is keep a few helpful tips in mind, and you will have a hammock that will seem almost custom-made just for you.As the main point in owning a hammock is to give you a place to relax, the factors which go into making a hammock comfortable are very important. One of the first factors is its material. While you may not have thought of it before, there is simply no material as ideal as cotton. In addition to how wonderful the softness of cotton feels against the skin, this natural material is much more breathable than synthetic fabrics. While synthetic fabrics often promote perspiration, making even a brief rest in a hammock quite uncomfortable, your cotton hammock will stay fresh, even in the hottest and most humid weather.
The construction of your new hammock is an essential factor to consider. As you will want it to give you many years of enjoyment, comfort depends on your hammock staying in top-notch condition. It should be strong enough to resist against getting torn, wearing out, and fading. The more durable it is, the longer you will own and enjoy it.
In addition to ensuring your safety, choosing a hammock with good ropes will make it more comfortable. When you are unwinding after a long day at work, or making the most of your vacation time, you will gain much more from your hammock if its ropes are strong and secure. You should be sure that the hammock you are considering has ropes that will not break or slip loose from where they are tied.
While you probably already know that size is important in choosing a hammock that is right for your height, weight, and your family or friends who will be using it, you may not have thought of it in terms of location. To get the most from your new hammock, thinking about where you plan to place it will ensure a good fit. Whether you want to locate it between two trees in a large yard, or on a small deck, selecting a hammock that fits nicely will make it more comfortable to use.
Hammocks are great. Almost everyone loves them. It is a good idea to keep this in mind when you're thinking about which one to purchase. You will want one that every member of your family will enjoy.
These days especially, cost is a factor for most people. When you're in the market for a hammock, however, you will be pleased to find one to your liking that is nicely affordable. You do not have to spend a small fortune for the hammock that is ideal for you and your whole family.
While appearance is important, you may not have thought about how relevant it is to your comfort. The fact is, when you own something that is stylish and beautiful, it is a place where you will love to go whenever you have the chance to take a break. Whether your tastes run to bright and colorful or basic, there is something for you. Your new hammock will look nice and be relaxing and comfortable as well.
Ideas For Hanging Your Hammock
Hammocks come in several different styles. Most of the styles can be hung using different types of accessories. Choose the one that is best for your situation. Some hammock styles such as the banana hammock, the Brazilian, the Samba and the Barbados hammock are all sling style hammocks. That means that when no one is lying on it it rolls up into a long sling. This style makes it easy to pack and take with you on camping trips or vacation. Hanging this style of hammock is very easy with the right hammock accessories. A micro-rope made of strong polyester allows you to safely attach the hammock to two trees without damaging the trees. This accessory can be found through retailers who sell hammocks. Some even come with adjustment mechanisms already attached so there is no need to rely on your knot tying skills. This wonderful apparatus makes taking and hanging a hammock as easy as One, Two, Zzzzzzz.
Most rope hammocks are created by intertwining sturdy ropes into a giant mesh. Many of the rope hammocks use the technique of stringing the ropes through a strong, narrow piece of oak board at each end. This keeps the hammock from folding in on itself such as the sling hammocks do. These hammocks can also be attached between two trees or any other sturdy building structure. Because of its bulk, a rope hammock of this style is usually installed more permanently. One way to keep it a little more portable is to consider hammock stands. With these stands you still have the option of placing it in different places on your property or moving it to keep it in the shade - or the sun, whichever you prefer.
As with the sling hammocks, a rope hammock can be tied to trees or structures using a strong, sturdy rope. For even more stability, a heavy-duty eyebolt can be twisted into the support and a rugged snap hook can attach each rope end to the supportive structure. This still allows for the hammock to be taken down easily for unseasonable weather and the bolts will still be there for reattaching whenever you need to.
