Counted Cross Stitch Needlework
Counted Cross Stitch embroidery is a form of needlework where even weave fabric is used and fabric threads are counted before inserting the needle. The embroiderer uses printed charts which show how many threads to count to determine the placement of the stitches. Counted Cross Stitch is usually done on Aida cloth with embroidery floss, the number of strands of floss to use printed on the pattern.
This needlework technique, cross stitch
embroidery, dates back many centuries as seen on household items and clothing in many museums

Helpful Tips for Cross Stitch Needlework
If the first leg of the stitches go from the left to the right, then every stitch in the entire project must have the first leg of each stitch go in that same direction. Some people find it is easier to go from right to left when stitching the first leg of an X, but the choice depends on what you feel comfortable with. Always be consistent with the direction of your stitches throughout the project.
The beginner should also be careful that the tension of the stitches is just right - not too tight and not too loose. With a little practice on a scrap of material you will soon find how tightly each stitch should be pulled for a flat, even look.

Personalize your bookmark by sewing a name down the center of the book mark. I also like the words, "God is love" on a book mark. It is a nice, comforting reminder and would be a welcome gift for someone special.
