A little Rose history

Pink tipped roseEvidence of the rose here on earth points to it being around for some 35 million years. It is believed the rose has been cultivated in gardens for 5,000 years and probably began in Asia.

There are two groups of roses: Old Roses are ones cultivated in Europe before 1800 and Modern Roses are ones cultivated in England and France around the turn of the 19th century.

Until around 1800 all roses in Europe were shades of pink or white.

Known as the world's most favorite of flowers an estimated 150 million plants are sold to gardeners each year.

Some lovely pictures of roses -- my hubby opted to try a rose bush in our steamy backyard. Thus far it has already bloomed for us.
