If you have a rotator cuff problem you know of he constant pain and extreme hindrance on your daily life. You probably also know of sleepless nights sue to the pain and some are unlucky enough to be told by doctors to just 'rest' it and it will come good ... then ... it doesn't! That was what i needed for my case anyway. Poorly diagnosed and poorly communicated i sought out more doctors and options because i was desperate to be able to live my normally active life again which i could not with this piercing pain all the time!

Exercise

Rest may be essential to healing but if you do not exercise a little bit you do not give the body the right way to heal and repair a damaged muscle, joint or rotator cuff. By gently exercising the shoulder and arm muscles you can strengthen them and bring blood and nutrients needed to regrow what was broken. No need for heavy weights but some select exercises that push you to the edge of discomfort will spark those muscles into healing mode strengthening the core muscles of the shoulder for better recovery.

Stretching

One problem many people face whe they have shut off their limbs from any action for a long time is stiffness and lack of mobility. If you do simple gentle stretches for your shoulder and the muscles in that region you can aid with your exercises, increase flexibility and mobility and loosen up the muscles making it less of a burden on the shoulder. Again if you take your stretches to the edge of discomfort but no further you are actually doing your rotator cuff a great service!

Hot/Cold Packs

One problem with exercising a joint that has issues like yours is that it bring blood into that area which can cause swelling and pain. This blood is important to the healing process though so it should not be discouraged all the time but you will need to moderate it. By using hot packs before exercise and cold packs after it you can control the blood flow and the pain and also influence how the body heals itself to a greater degree.
