What is the rotator cuff?
The rotator cuff is a series of four muscles whose sole purpose is to stabilize the muscles and the bones of the shoulder. When people start to have shoulder pain, it is generally because the tendons surrounding the muscles develop small tears and becomes inflamed. Since most people don't exercise these muscles they become the weakest link when lifting or carrying something, which is how they injured. Why are Rotor Cuff Exercises Important
As stated earlier, the rotator cuff is about stabilization, therefore it is important to exercise these muscles so everything works together. Exercising your rotator cuff will strengthen the muscles around the shoulder, so that further injuries will not occur. Secondly stretching these muscles will help with your range of motion. Exercises are not only important for rehabilitation but will also prevent further or repeat injuries. Keep in mind, while most injuries can be healed with exercise and rest, there are some that my require surgery.
