About Roulette

Roulette was developed in the 1700's as a hybrid of the English wheel games Roly-Poly, Ace of Hearts, and E.O., the Italian board games of Hoca and Biribi, and "Roulette" from an already existing French board game of that name. It has gone though some changes over the years, such as the adding of the "0" in Europe and the adding of the "00" in America, but has for all intents and purposes, it had remained the same.

Roulette is not a fast paced game, if you are looking for something fast paced, craps might be your bag. Roulette is more methodical. Online roulette may move a bit quicker, and is a wonderful option especially for those who wish to gamble while having all the conveniences of home.

Depending on your geographical location, or in the case of online casinos, the casino's origin, there are different variations of roulette. These variations are American, French European Roulette.

Essentially, the difference between the American and the European and French variations is that An American roulette wheel has an extra slot; 00. A European roulette wheel has the numbers 1-36, plus a slot for zero. This extra slot on the American wheel means that the odds of winning are slightly worse on an American wheel. On both wheels, the numbers are arranged in such a way so that the odds of landing on high, odd, low or even numbers are evenly distributed. The zero and double zero numbers are in green and on opposite sides of the wheel, the colors and odd/even numbers alternate, and the numbers themselves are randomly distributed. As for the French version, it is the same as the European version, except there are some betting procedural differences.

Most online casinos offer either American of European roulette. It is very rare to find a casino online that offers French roulette.
